SFRails Meetup - Using Storm + AngularJS + Object-Oriented Design

7:00 Food/Beer/Networking
7:30 Intros/Sharing of Tips and Tools
7:40 Talk 1: John Gesimondo on Object Oriented Design
8:10 Talk 2: Josh Dzielak on Using Storm for Realtime Computation
8:35 Talk 3: Ari Lerner on AngularJS
9:00 End

Talk 1: Object Oriented Design

John Gesimondo from New Relic will be in to discuss object oriented design within Rails apps. He'll provide guidance on how to create componentize apps and create structure and form out of potential chaos and disorder.

About the Speaker

John Gesimondo is a software engineer at New Relic and big believer in the fundamentals of solid software design including using smart abstractions, staying DRY, and writing code that is easy to read and change.

Talk 2: Using Storm at Keen IO for Realtime Computation

Storm is a free and open source distributed realtime computation system. It makes it easy to reliably process unbounded streams of data.

Josh Dzielak is the VP of Engineering at Keen IO and an expert on Storm. He'll give an in-depth discussion on using Storm and how it is for realtime processing what Hadoop is for batch processing.

Talk 3: Using AngularJS with Rails

AngularJS is what HTML would have been, had it been designed for building web-apps. Angular follows the MVC pattern of software engineering and encourages loose coupling between presentation, data, and logic components. Using dependency injection, Angular brings traditional server-side services, such as view-dependent controllers, to client-side web applications. Consequently, much of the burden on the backend is reduced, leading to much lighter web applications.

About the Speaker

Ari Lerner is an instructor at Hack Reactor and founder of FullStack, a full-stack engineering and development shop. He teaches and writes about Javascript, AngularJS, and Ruby on Rails. His most recently released book is Riding the Rails with AngularJS (which he'll offer at a discount at the meetup). (leanpub@auser)

I always walk away leaning something worthwhile. Thanks and Climate Corp and the speakers, of course.

Really great talks, especially enjoyed Ari's on AngularJS w/ Rails.
Also, the book is definitely worth buying. It covers a couple different integration methods w/ Rails. Quick and practical read. Here's the link to it in case anyone else is interested:

Oh, I'm sad to miss this one. If the presentations/slides/video can be sent out afterwards, that would be fantastic!
