Talk 1: Think Like a Hacker

Any organization can adopt simple strategies to be more secure, to know when something has happened and how to prevent it in future. Bugcrowd, a SF based startup that makes security sexy, has built a vulnerability management platform called Crowdcontrol. This allows companies to effectively engage over 10,000 security researchers to find and report and mitigate vulnerabilities in their applications. Crowdcontrol is a big target itself and is designed to be hacker resilient. Over the course of the last 18 months we’ve solved some very interesting problems. We build software that is not only designed to work as expected, but also to not break when its used in a way it wasn’t designed to. This talk will go through some of the problems we’ve encountered, how we dealt with them and how we stop them reoccurring.

About the Speaker

Chris Raethke is the CTO of Bugcrowd, a company that crowdsources the discovery of security vulnerabilities to the security research community. He has over 17 years of experience across a broad range of software engineering areas from cutting code to running projects. Closing the gap between security and development teams is his pet love and he regularly speaks at events on both security and development practices and projects. His most recent challenges have been from Bugcrowd’s 10,000 strong security researcher community and their attempts to break Bugcrowd’s own security platform “Crowdcontrol”.

Lightning Talk: Introducing Fourchette

Fourchette enables a better development workflow for teams, leveraging forking and github pull requests together to give you isolated environments automatically to checkout new features in your app with ease!

About the Speaker

Russell Smith is co-founder of RainforestQA and has a ton of ops experience, mad coding skillz, and absolutely no knowledge of geography. He loves fast cars, hacking on open source, running meetups, and arguing about startups.

Talk 2:  Rapid Prototyping with Rails

Everybody wants to write better products faster.. but how do you do that on the real world, exactly? We'll talk about the underlying assumptions behind prototyping, and how can we use Rails (with gems!) to write less code, work on the important things and iterate faster.

About the Speaker

Amit is the Lead Developer of 500friends. Originally from Israel, web developing professionally for more than 10 years (when IE6 was cool!), switched to Rails in 2007 and never looked back. Although he's obsessing over clean code, prototyping and refactoring, he'll never sudo make a sandwich.@amitkaz

Excellent meetup! The Hacker presentations was scary, in a good way. Fast paced and interesting.

Fourchette makes me want to be using Heroku here at Telmate.

And I am always amazed how fast and complete Rails is for prototyping. Very exciting presentation! Thanks for putting this Meetup together, I really appreciate it.

Also if anyone is looking for a Development or Devops Engineering position using Ruby/Rails send a note we are looking for good Developers at all skill levels here at Telmate.
