Talk 1:

12 Factors Apps
Chris Continanza
Heroku Engineering

Lessons on building cloud apps from engineers directly involved in the development and deployment of hundreds of apps (and indirectly witnesses to the development, operation, and scaling of hundreds of thousands of apps).

The Twelve Factors

These 12 factors synthesize observations from a wide variety of software-as-a-service apps in the wild. Focusing on ideal practices for app development, paying particular attention to the dynamics of the organic application growth over time, the dynamics of collaboration between developers working on the app’s codebase, and avoiding the cost of software erosion.

Talk 2:

Workers and Worker Patterns at Scale
Travis Reeder/Chad Arimura
Co-founders, Iron.io

The talk will be about workers and worker patterns especially for apps that have a lot of need to scale things in the background. Topics will include how to use schedule jobs to continually process data, how to spin up and manage many concurrent tasks, and how to create a framework for building many more processes into the background. These and others are directly lessons from developing many data-heavy applications in the cloud as well as a number of use cases and learnings from users of IronWorker.

I stopped the wait list option because it was auto-filling. We're at capacity and so can't take any more from the wait list.

Sincere apologies for those unable to attend. Next month we'll look to accommodate more.

Was the meetup videotaped, and if so will it be made available?
