Shereef,
The DevCamp home page states "We line up companies willing to
interview you, and pay your tuition if they hire you." While the
Tuition, FAQ, and Employer pages each suggest that's overstated. A
student who gets hired through you can expect, at best, about half of
their tuition back.

It appears that the business model here is to screen applicants for
their willingness and capability to accept jobs in SF upon graduation,
collect approximately $250k in tuition, then collect (based on the SF
starting salaries you're promoting to them) approximately $360k more
as recruitment commissions.

Your other major project is BetterMeans, a site which no longer exists
except for "this account has been suspended" messages. Even with the
prospect of kicking back a bit to the new hires, every indication is
that DevCamp is a for-profit commercial project. Which one is welcome
to do, and charge whatever the market is willing to pay for it.
Huzzah. But any dev who is considering providing uncompensated time
to this deserves to be told upfront that their gift is not "to the
community" but to your LLC's profitability.

According to its Facebook page, BetterMeans's major values had
included compensation based on contribution, full accountability, and
transparency. DevCamp's business interests would be better served by
living up to similar values.

The reason you've gotten testy responses here has little to do with
whether your fees are commensurate; it has much to do with the
appearance of exploiting generosity of one constituency in order to
empty the pockets of another.

If that reading doesn't match your intentions, consider whether you've
sufficiently thought out the business plan and marketing message.
