San Francisco Ruby on Rails Group Message Board › National Day of Civic Hacking - Rails Devs Needed!
San Francisco, CA
This weekend is a big weekend for "civic hacking" The National Day of Civic Hacking started last year and is now growing to an international scale with events all over the world this weekend. Civic hacking is applying technology and process innovation to hard civic problems. These are often big, hairy problems that, while challenging, are fun to work on with others.
San Francisco has a couple of events, but one of them will be at Code for America HQ this weekend. Around 10 applications will be redeployed from other cities to SF, meaning open source projects built elsewhere will be wrangled, stood up and improved using SF data and applying SF community context where necessary.
Many of these apps are Rails apps and we could really use the help deploying and improving many of them.
Of the applications that need rails help there's one to help people find and navigate social services, a campaign finance visualization, and an application to match bicycle newbies with experts.
Also, there's plenty of need for design, frontend, and data work if you have that in your skillset as well. Hope some of you can make it this weekend for National Day of Civic Hacking!
