Boat diving in Carmel

Hey all! I thought it would be fun to try to some boat diving. Let's go out on the Silver Prince. Their capacity is 10 divers, and will be first come, first serve for those who pay directly to the boat operator.

If you want to come, please RSVP to this meetup but you must go directly to the Silver Prince website pasted below and book a seat for the July 28th Carmel 2-tank trip and pay directly on their website. You can make a reservation on the "Calendar" page of their website.

RSVPing to this meetup does NOT guarantee a seat on the boat. You must book directly with Silver Prince!

Cost of the 2-tank trip is $75 per diver plus any rental gear. You can arrange rentals through the Silver Prince when you book your reservation.

Please post a comment if you book and have paid, and we can coordinate carpools down there if there is interest. It's an easy day trip...boat leaves at 9am and gets back to shore around 3pm. Should be fun!

Fun time! The boat ride was a little bumpy but great dive sites and a fun group.

Hey all...just a heads up for those going that there are apparently several very large events going on in the Monterey area this weekend, including a Grand Prix at Laguna Seca Raceway sponsored by Redbull. Allow plenty of time to get there and find parking as things may be much heavier than usual. I emailed everyone with my cell number just in case. Look forward to it!

Jeff: I'm out of the trip, so you're welcome to take my place. I just sent them a cancellation request, so that should open up hopefully today. I WISH I could go! But alas, I get the fun experience of cortisone injections for my spine instead ;(. Boo. Ya'll have a great time. I will be planning a weekend in August to do the same thing though if anyone wants to join me then:(

I'm on the wait list, I'll let you know if I get on, then I'd be happy to carpool with anyone from SF area.

Do you have to be certified to go? I'm not yet certified but will be soon this summer! Otherwise I hope there is another meetup soon with or like Carmel! Love to know!

Looks like the boat is now fully booked for the 28th! I'll email everyone in another week or so about carpools, which some have expressed interest in. Looking forward to it!

Kate - yes it can be cold. You do see quite a few dry suits in the area. Breakwater would be a good place to try it out. That's where I did the Rescue Diver class this past weekend. I don't have anything actively on the schedule for this month, but maybe a weekend in August?

Wow - thats cold! Melbourne water is about 60-65F and I generally get cold by the end of the 2nd dive. I saw on the silver prince charters that they hire out drsuits - however I haven't ever dived in a drysuit before. Do you guys do many pier dives or easier dives which I could do initially to try diving in a dry suit? Or potentially an easier boat dive so I get used to the difference in buoyancy etc.

Katie - most people wear at least a 7mm suit and hood so it depends if you get cold easily. The temps I have recorded at depth are usually 52-55 F. There are others who do not have cars so we can work on figuring out carpools as needed.

    Hi all
I am new to SF and am not sure what the diving is like but looking forward to getting wet. Can you please let me know what temp the water is - I have a 7/5mm semi dry with hood- do you think that be warm enough? Also I live in SF city and do not have a car :( do you guys car pool to get down to Monterey or what is the best option to get down there? I can get a zip car if needed (however not that confident driving where I don't know where I am going yet)
    Thanks Katie

Alethea - Great! Yes I'll follow up with everyone a little closer to the date to arrange carpools.

Alberto - nothing planned other than the Rescue class. I don't have any other weekends free in June. If you're looking to dive, I suggest either posting something in the local diving folder on the discussion board to look for a dive buddy, or create a new meetup and then message me when its ready and I'll forward it out to the group.
