An Indian Lunch at Bhanu Grocery and Cuisine!

Bhanu Indian Grocery and Cuisine has come highly recommended by two of our members. I stopped into this restaurant to see it for myself and the two women who run it are more than gracious. I met Bhanu, who is as radiant as her name, which means the sun. The menu is expansive and their prices are more than fair. You can have a nice meal and then shop for groceries and peruse their wonderful bakery counter. Both members say that this place is not elegant, but sometimes hole-in-the-wall restaurants, great food at great prices are gems to discover.

Read what Google Reviewers had to say about Bhanu:

“Quality Excellent Appeal Excellent Service Excellent”

“If you're looking at the price tags of groceries, then you're missing one of the most enjoyable meals available within the pantheon of Indian restaurants here in LA. The food is peerless, unless you want to fly to the four regions of India that find their way on Bhanu's menu. This is no superlative, but to be fair as I write this, I'm still under the influence of their kitchen's handiwork and I must say, it's hypnotically delicious. I've had the good fortune of sampling Indian dishes since 1990 in greater Los Angeles and in multiple regions in India--to say nothing at my own hands. Against that wide range of experiences, Bhanu's is now my main reason I stay within driving distance of San Gabriel.”

“Go for the food. You will easily forget about groceries.”

“My wife and I had the chicken korma, perfectly light, not greasy, delicately cooked; then the thali, with moist, fresh, soft & crisp naan, mild savory sambar, channa masala, veg masala, light raita, I think dal makhani, and veg samosas. All lovely. One clue after eating here, instead of the often lethargic, gassy, irritated from heavier mixes of food, I felt energized. Seems rare in Indian restaurants these days.”

“We found the service at Bhanu's more considerate and responsive than 5 star restaurants (whose wait staff are pleasant only to angle for a bigger tip). No miffed attitudes here. In fact, one of the southland gringos was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and attentive. The food came in 10-12 minutes--half the time what you'd expect from a homemade meal. And that's what this is, believe it or no. We always hear the cooking is from "a family recipe.", but where most use that homestyle image as a marketing phrase, Bhanu's is the real thing. (BTW, no other Indian restaurant which I've experienced (except in India) motivated me to express what you, sad reader, may miss if you don't give this place at least a try.)”

Thanks to everyone for coming to our Indian luncheon today at Bhanu. It was one of my favorites. Everything was nice, the service, the food - everyone was a lot of fun. Nice to meet Michael, Jennifer and Shenny and hope you will join us again really soon! Nice to see Sivy, don’t be a stranger. Glad Michelle could make it. Marilyn and Winn win first prize for best entrée selection and thanks to Walter, Diane and Rich for such a fantastic choice of restaurants.

We have a reservation for 12:30 tomorrow at Bhanu! 7246 Rosemead Blvd., San Gabriel but there is always room for more! It is at Rosemead and Huntington Drive, south of Huntington. Bhanu is the last store in a strip mall and across the street from the North Woods Inn.

There is parking in the front of the restaurant.

Bhanu is providing separate checks, so debit cards will be accepted.

We welcome our first timers. The restaurant is not that large and we will be easy to find. I will be providing name tags.

I’m looking forward to the lunch tomorrow. I hope everyone is okay with family style, or at least sharing so that we can savor the variety. See you tomorrow!

Hi Michelle! Looking forward to seeing you at Bhanu. My friend Dan Ellis, a teacher at the school where I worked, is giving me a bowling lesson this week. Your event inspired me to try new things.
