Cycle 4 Sewa
27 September 12:14
Day is fast approaching which if anyone does not know, Sewa
Day is an international day of volunteering where thousands of good-hearted people across the world come together to experience the joy of giving (Sewa
) in its truest sense. By participating in this collective endeavour, we hope that the seeds of Sewa
are watered so that acts of kindness and public service are performed more often. Sewa
Day is a catalyst in making this happen.
As a community all were asking is that you give your time to help other people either to bring a little joy, help the environment etc for one day....that's not too much to ask is it?
It has been decided by the Newham Shakha group to hold a dinner and raas garba for the elderly. All food will be prepared by the younger generation. The venue for this event is at the Upton Centre between 4pm and 8pm on Saturday 6th Oct. If you have any elderly neighbours, friends, family please bring them along, anyone is welcome and also please spread the word.
If you would like to help out on the day...please let me know...many hands make light work as they say!
Sunday, 7th October 2012 is Sewa Day.
Change the lives of those around you, donate time.

What is the sewa pioneers awards programme and how can you get involved?
Real people… real projects… making a difference and inspiring action!
Sewa involves performing an act of kindness without expectation of reward. It is performed selflessly and without ulterior motive. Whilst this is the inherent nature of sewa, The Sewa Pioneers Awards programme recognises pioneering social service projects that create a positive impact on local communities and act as a catalyst to inspire further selfless action in others.
Whilst sewa is a universal age old concept, Sewa Day, challenges groups to initiate dynamic, sustainable projects that truly shine light on the beauty of the sewa concept.
On Sewa Day, thousands of good-hearted people across the world come together to perform sewa, and experience the joy of giving in its truest sense. We invite groups who are participating in Sewa Day to submit their projects for recognition.Submissions are invited in 3 categories:
- School teams
- Community teams
- Company teams
