Hiking the Pine Mountain Trail
This well-maintained trail is rated one of the best trail systems in Georgia. This main trail and connecting loops, that crosses and follows the Pine Mountain ridge in west central Georgia, is inside the Franklin Delano Roosevelt State Park and near Callaway Gardens.
We will be hiking the Wolf Den Loop: (6.7 miles) This is considered one of the most beautiful stretches of trail in the Southeast and is the most popular section of trail. Wolfden hike to Cascade Falls, you'll cross over water 13 times, using stepping stones along with three bridges. We will take a break at Cascade Falls, hike up to the top of the Wolfden cave cliff and hike out along the ridge for great views of the mountains.
Directions from Atlanta:
Take I-85 South to I-185 towards Columbus GA. Take exit 42 left turn onto US-27 towards Pine Mt. Turn left onto GA-354 E. for about 2.5 miles, Right turn at the stone bridge onto GA-190. FDR state park office will be on your left.
The Pine Mountain Trail is within FDR State Park. FDR, like all state parks requires a daily use fee for parking anywhere within the park. Annual Georgia Park Passes are good at all state parks such as FDR and can be checked out at your local library.
We will be driving to the entry point at the parking lot near the WJSP-TV tower on Alt US 85w just north of Ga 190.
Car Pool: we will meet at Loehman's Plaza at 9:00am...in front of Loehman's 2490 Briarcliff Road Northeast Atlanta, GA 30329. Please indicate in the question section if you plan on meeting at the carpool or at the park.
