We will walk portions of the blue, yellow and red trail sections (less advanced hikers may stay on the yellow trail as they all interconnect). They will take us along steep slopes overlooking the Etowah River, Allatoona Dam, and Allatoona Lake. This is one of the best water view hikes in Georgia. Vineyard Mountain Trail was developed as an Eagle Scout service project. We still start from the Red Top Mountain end so that we will end close to where the picnic is. This hike is moderate-strenuous and is not designed for beginner hikers.

Distance: Approx 6 miles (somewhat steep)

Meeting time: 9:45am...ready to hike at 10:00 am

Required Items to Bring:
Water, snacks and good walking shoes.

Directions: There will be no car pool unless you live near me in Norcross and want to meet at my home. From Atlanta take I-75 Exit 285 to Red Top Mountain Road, make a right on Red Top Mountain Road. Go 9/10 of a mile and the small parking lot will be on the left BEFORE you cross the bridge to red top mountain. You can use Red Top Mountain Road NE, Carterville, GA for your GPS...but do not go into Red Top Mountain State Park

Barbara Schlefman [masked];[masked] home[masked] (cell) Only call cell on the day of the hike. PS Because we are outside the park a GA State Parking Pass for $5 is not required for the hike.

I have a scratchy throat this evening. I'm still hoping to make it if it's not worse and will post a note in the morning to let you know if I'm not coming.

I'll be very bummed if I don't get to come.

So this hike is only about 3o minutes from Atlanta if I live in Vinings, correct? That makes it more appealing than some of the hikes far away since I have a dog who does not travel well in the car.
