Do you dream on two wheels?
This group is primarily for those who are interested in multi-day, long-distance travel by bicycle, including bicycle camping. Such adventures might include a traditional bicycle tour of the U.S. or another country, a local bike overnight, or a mountain-bike camping adventure (popularly known as bikepacking, similar to backpacking but by mountain bike). An emphasis on "loaded" touring, meaning carrying your own gear.
We have three types of events:
Actual trips! Overnights or long weekends locally or regionally. If you would like to suggest a trip, please use the "Suggest a trip" button to post your ideas. The organizers can make you an "event organizer" for that trip.
Social gatherings to share stories / maps / gear / route ideas for other locales, and/or to plan our trips and schedule.
Education & how-to. Want to get started? This might be the thing for you.
By RSVPing "Yes" to any of this group's events, you verify that you have read and agree to our disclaimer. Click HERE for link to disclaimer. This group is "semi-private" due to some of our members' concerns. If you are interested in learning more about our trips, please do join as a member -- and see below for a preview!
Hope you will join us and pedal off to some good adventures!
We're seeking to do at least one overnight trip per month, March through November. Here's a few samples of past trips. We have done many more (similar) in the two years since, but haven't taken the time to update this list.
August 2013 - Strawberry Narrows, a must-ride single-track trail, made for a great overnight -- followed by an exploration of forest service roads overlooking the reservoir. We did a similar trip again in June 2015 -- it was awesome, with a lovely campsite by the lake.
July 2013 - The wildflowers along Skyline Drive near Fairview were spectacular! This 70-mile loop included a variety of terrain. We pedaled along the alpine ridgeline, swooped delightedly into Reeder Canyon, and ascended creekside through Joe's Valley. Two nights, great trip!
June 2013 - High Uintas bikepacking trip near Whitney Reservoir, a wonderful way to escape the heat. We camped overnight along a lovely lake. We did this trip again in July 2014, and it may become an annual favorite.
April 2013 - Desert exploration near and to Fish Springs National Wildlife Refuge, an oasis in the desert.
March 2013 - Highly exploratory bikepacking trip to Wild Horse Mesa, near Goblin Valley (San Rafael Swell area). We will return to this beautiful desert landscape, but try a different route next time!
October 2012 - Circumnavigation of the Silver Island Mountain range, just north of the Bonneville Salt Flats. A dirt road tour in the desert, highlighted by a night of moonlit camping overlooking the salt flats
September 2012 - Wasatch Crest Trail overnight, camping at Desolation Lake.
August 2012 - Uintas Exploratory Bikepacking, a new adventure to start the group. We had a great time!
