The club is open to all eco-minded and health-conscious hobby fruit and vegetable gardeners, including gardener newbies! The club has been founded to bring local backyard gardeners together to share ideas, knowledge, successes, failures and...produce!
Topics will include garden planning and building (focus on SQUARE FOOT GARDENING because it's so dang efficient and easy!), patio gardens, herb gardens, organic gardening methods, tending to backyard orchards, cooperative gardening, veggie trading, harvesting/canning/dehydrating, natural foods recipes, composting, rainwater harvesting, seed saving, pesticide-free yard and garden management, low-footprint living...and we'll probably come up with some more along the way...
I'm envisioning that as the club grows, we will end up with at least a few people who have backyards that can accommodate the meetings and can rotate the location of the club meetings through the members -- I think it's only fitting that we meet in and amongst each others' gardens!
Welcome and please submit your suggestions for making this club a 'fruitful' place to 'grow' your gardening knowledge!
About the club organizer: I am just a novice backyard vegetable gardener, who happens to be concerned about the impact that urban living has on the environment and the amount of synthetic chemicals that end up on available grocery store produce. So this year I started a garden and planted a few fruit trees in my backyard...and quickly learned that there is a TON to learn! But I have had a lot of fun with my first attempts at planting, harvesting, canning, etc, and want to learn and do more, and meet others who have discovered that veggies, fruit, and homemade cooking taste better, and are healthier, when they come from your own backyard!
