Beginner Photography Class 101

This is a free photography workshop for beginners. We plan to have intermediate, advanced and professional level classes in the coming months for photography, Lightroom and Photoshop.

In this "Beginner Photography" workshop, we will cover the essentials of using your camera effectively. You will learn how ISO ("film speed"), shutter speed, and aperture (that "f-stop" thing you always hear about, but never quite grasped) all work together. If you already have a camera, then please bring it with you to the class. We will show you – on your camera – how to make the right adjustments to get photos that will "WOW!" you!

We will discuss in detail the most important tips to getting better photos. During the class, you will have the opportunity to apply your newly developed knowledge in real time – we will have several still life setups and a professional model available for you to shoot.

Our goal is for you to take a big step forward in your photography skills, while having fun along the way. As a bonus, you should also be able to get several great photos during class to start or add to your personal portfolio.

We are excited to teach our first beginner photography class on Tuesday, February 7, from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. We look forward to meeting you.

SOME IMPORTANT ITEMS TO NOTE:

We will provide a handout so that you do not have to worry about taking detailed notes. We will have a lot to cover and will start promptly at 7:30 p.m. Feel free to arrive up to 30 minutes early and browse the current photo exhibition in our 3,000 sq. ft. studio/gallery.

Parking is available on the street, though many prefer to park at the south end of the Gateway Mall and walk or TRAX the three minutes to the studio. The "Old GreekTown" TRAX stop is just feet away from the SLC Photo Collective. Just do NOT park behind the studio – they tow cars in that parking lot.

If you have to cancel, please do so as soon as possible in case a wait list develops.

This class was amazing. So much information was provided. Both Dave and Greg did a wonderful job of explaining things. Good for both newbies and those needing a refresher. They were able to help both Canon and Nikon shooter. Had stations set up for hands on experience. Sam was available as a model to practice what was learned and the opportunity to shoot a person. She is amazing. Such a natural she made it look so easy under the lights and was great to talk to. Cannot wait for more classes and opportunities.

This was so good. Now I feel way more confident on the things that I try and do with my camera. I Wis it could of been a bit earlier since I didn't have enough time to stay until the shooting part.

i thought the class was great, but wished it hadn't gone so late. But it was a wonderful overview and learning hands on was really helpful. I'm hoping that you have some sort of beginner photoshop class coming soon.
