Behaviour Driven Development and Embracing Distributed Systems

Mik Quinlan Mik Quinlan, Distinguished Architect will talk about BDD testing at Shopzilla.

Behaviour Driven Development and Shopzilla's Inventory Management Platform

For the last 14 months, Shopzilla has been re-platforming their Inventory systems to a service based architecture. During this time, Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) was trialled and eventually became the de facto testing approach.  This talk will focus on how we used BDD to not only test individual services, but also the pipeline.

Riak and Embracing Distributed Systems

Riak is an open source, scalable, highly-available database. Put
another away, it's a platform for building distributed systems. Riak
favors availability and operational simplicity above all else. Because
of this, some of the world's largest companies are relying on Riak to
build resilient applications.

This talk will cover the approach Riak takes to helping developers and
ops professionals build distributed systems. We'll start with an
architectural overview, then work our way through way Riak's
strengths.  Lastly, we'll close with a focus on long-running
production deployments and applicability to real-world scenarios.

Good meetup. Very informative and I liked the multiple presentations.

Found a Mozilla post on why they chose Riak: flexible schema, node flexibility, simple REST api...

Personally, I like Couchbase better than Riak. It doesn't get as much attention because it is often equated with CouchDB which is a fallacy.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
