Philomena at E Street Cinema, meet at 5pm

Join the Washington DC Sunday Night Film Club this Sunday, Dec 29th at 5:20 for Philomena at the Landmark E Street Cinema. Look for Laine wearing a green coat in the theatre lobby about 15 minutes before the film. As always, after the film we will descend on a local establishment for dinner/drinks/discussion.

The dramatic comedy Philomena tells the incredible true story of one mothers search for her lost son. After becoming pregnant as a teenager in Ireland in 1952, Philomena was sent to a convent to be looked after as a fallen woman. When her baby was only a toddler, he was taken away by the nuns for adoption in America. Philomena (Judi Dench) spent the next fifty years searching for him in vain. Then she met Martin Sixsmith (co-writer Steve Coogan), a world-weary political journalist who happened to be intrigued by her story. Together they set off for America on a journey that would not only reveal the extraordinary story of Philomena's son, but also create an unexpectedly close bond between them. It's the compelling story of two very different people, at different stages of their lives, who help each other and show that there is laughter even in the darkest places. Directed by Stephen Frears (The Queen, Dirty Pretty Things, High Fidelity).

Looking forward to seeing the movie. Not able to stay after this time though. Need to finish up some work before Monday.

Already saw this film and it is a jewel. Was not intending to see it but glad I was roped into it and was pleasantly surprised. Offers some good points for discussion.

Look forward to the next get together.
