South D'Aguilar - Walkabout Creek (a.k.a. Brisbane Forest Park)

A VERY easy-paced 5km, 1.5 to 2 hour stroll (AS Class 3) around Brisbane's Enoggera Reservoir along the Araucaria Track, through rainforest and past giant hoop pines. Most of the track is gently sloping and shaded. Optional post-stroll one-hour stop or so at the Green Tree Frog Café for lunch or coffee.

Please wear good walking shoes (I've seen snakes here once), bring a water bottle, hat and insect/leech repellent.

Meeting Point Options:
You can easily get to this place via Brisbane Bus Number 385 from the Brisbane CBD via The Gap.

Option 1: Meet me at the Cultural Centre Busway, platform 1, by 8:10am. I will wear a lime yellow cycling jacket and a wide-brimmed hat. Catch bus 385 that leaves Cultural Centre Busway at 8:17am, goes through The Gap and arrives at Brisbane Forest Park at 8:47am.

Option 2: meet me on the above-mentioned bus en route to Brisbane Forest Park.

Option 3: meet me at Brisbane Forest Park at the doorway of the Walkabout Creek Visitor's Centre (also previously referred to as the Brisbane Forest Park Information Centre) at 9am. Vehicle parking available (please see park details below).

Please do NOT to swim in the reservoir as this is one of the sources for SEQ's drinking water. While the water does get treated, swimming in the water source increases water quality risks and treatment costs.

Weather options: If the weather forecast indicates ‘a few showers’, I’ll still go if it is only sprinkly rain. But if it's full-on rain, I'll post a cancellation by 7am that morning on this web site.

Cheers,
Nali

I just checked with Lauren from NPRSR and they won't be doing planned burning tomorrow, despite the rather general info on their web site. See you tomorrow! http://www.nprsr.qld.gov.au/park-alerts/12169.html

Hi Nali, Can I bring 1 x person with me on Saturday's walk…I hope its not too late to notify you :-( This

In your rsvp. I think there is a button to add a guest to your rsvp and therefore the attendee list. If there are spots left, which i see right now that there are, you should be able to add a guest. If u have any problems with the web site, please let one kf the organizers or me know. (sorry, i dont have access to the rsvp and attendee list).

Planned forest burning at 'parts of D'Aguilar Park' has been announced by QLD Dept of National Parks. http://www.nprsr.qld.gov.au/par... When I phoned them today, they said that so far they don't plan to burn around our planned hiking area but I will need to reconfirm this Friday. I'll let y'all know this Friday morning what I find out. Thanks for your patience amidst this partial info.

Hello, I will be bringing my husband and 17-month old son. We have walked in Poland over rough tracks with a stroller, so please let me know if not ok.

    September 2, 2013

    • Nali

Hi Sue, thanks for your message and info about your walks in Poland. If I recall, there is a small creek crossing across some rocks and the track does go through scrub. Although the track is Class 3, if it were me, I wouldn't recommend bringing a stroller. I think that a baby carrier might be better (however, I've never hiked with a baby so don't know how comfortable that would be).

Thanks for the offer Lisa. I will be driving there since I live only 10 mis from the Walkabout Creek Visitors Centre.

Will try and make this one. My parents live across from Walkabout Creek and I have to visit them Saturday afternoon, so will try and rearrange my Saturday morning to come along for the walk. It's a beautiful area, and yes, we've regularly seen brown snakes there, so closed in shoes are a must. Could someone please send me their mobile number so I can text if I'm not going to make it. I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
