  • This location is shown only to members

This page is for Friday, January 17-Monday, January 20.  There is another Meetup page for the Friday-Sunday option.  (We need to do this because of the different prices.)

Organized by Pete Lamb, petekandu[at]yahoo[dot]com

The trip will run from noon on Friday 17th January till noonish on Monday 20st for those of you who can get MLK Monday off work or get sick on command. The cost is $95 for the 3-night weekend.  (If you can only stay Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Monday the cost is $65; please see Two Night Option page to sign up.)

The accomodation is in two houses that have full kitchens, stove, fridge, microwave, cutlery and dishes. All bedding is also supplied.

There are several double rooms (those go fast) and a variety of rooms with bunk beds some are doubles.

We will have a Pot Luck on Saturday all other meals are your responsibility.

There are opportunities to down hill ski, cross country ski and snow shoe within easy driving and the Vasa Ski system is 20 minute away.

This has always been a very popular trip so if you are serious about going get your name and payment in fast, the cut off is at 30 people total (2 or 3 nights).

No refund policy - you can sell your spot to another member.

As editor and chief gossip columnist for the Ray, I must warn all of you you that I have already heard (or can make up) lurid tales of debauchery about the goings-on at Lake Ann. If someone does not write a factual, balanced article about the weekend, I may be forced to print sensational and scurrilous rumors. Pictures would be nice too.

It is becoming a tradition to have sunday evening dinner at the lunatic asylum in Traverse City and I will make reservations after Christmas when I get the numbers in. This is a fun event we had 24 attend last year this is not an inexpensive meal but I think the people who attended last year thought it worth the money.

Pete. Sorry. Change of plans. Please delete Krisanne & I from the dinner reservations. Thank you.

Peter, it is with extreme gratitude that Susan and I accept your invitation to join you and your lovely bride for dinner is the asylum basement. Perhaps we could hook Andrew up with a microphone and speakers and then everyone could enjoy the arousing description of the succulent food and of course there would be a great CLIMAX for all to enjoy as the desert is eaten.

Howdy, I live in Royal Oak and would like to car pool to Lake Ann. Is anyone able to leave Friday morning and ski in Grayling or at the VASA on the way? I'm returning Monday afternoon. Mary Dunn

    January 2, 2014

  • Barbara

Just wondering if anyone wants to carpool up there on the Friday?

    January 2, 2014

  • Peter J L.

I do have a bunch of maps and stuff on ski trails around Lake Ann and will bring them to disribute. The popular places are of course the Vasa Trail systen in Traverce City the close by lake ann trail and aligator hill in sleeping bear dunes , of course we cannot say how feasable any of these are until we get there. Our contact up there is seriously ill this year

    January 2, 2014

    • Kristin P.

Just making sure you have me down for the dinner. Thanks for organizing

      January 2, 2014

actually the pot luck is a bit of a problem we combine the two lodges and the space is usually very cosy that was one reason I limited the group to 32 after that it is just too cosy. the dinner out is open to any one who wishes to go

    December 2, 2013

  • Ann R.

I have a group of five in cabin #3. Do you need our names? Can we participate in the pot luck and the dinner out?

    December 2, 2013

  • Carol

Since there is such a large wait list, I contacted Sleeping Bear Resorts. They have smaller cottages on the property that can be rented. 3 are available at the time I contacted them though this may have changed.

Here's the link to look at the cottages - http://sleepingbearresort.com/s.... There is 1 bedroom with a queen bed + full over twin bunk; there's a living room/kitchen and 1 bath. Cost is including tax (and 3% fee if paid by CC) would be $354.25 for Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. Saturday/Sunday night would be $228.90 and Friday/Saturday would be $250.70. The cost is $95 for Sunday thru Thursday and $115 for Friday/Saturday.

It is up to the those interested to find others to share the cottage, to contact the resort and reserve/pay for lodging.

Is there some type of itinerary for when people would be skiing or snow shoeing, etc. I'm new so don't really know anyone.

    October 27, 2013

  • Barbara

Couple of questions: do you need your own skis/snow shoes or can you rent? Is there some type of itinerary for when people would be skiing or snow shoeing, etc. I'm new so don't really know anyone. I have down hill skis, old cross country skis and new snow shoes. I'm an advanced beginner/intermediate downhill skier, beginning cross country and I think snow shoeing is easy for most people.
