2014 Quiet Water Symposium

Saturday, March 1, 2014

9:00 AM to 5:30 PM

Pavilion for Agriculture and Livestock Education, Michigan State University

4301 Farm Lane, Lansing, MI

The 19th annual Quiet Water Symposium will bring together those who are passionate about human powered, outdoor recreation and who work to protect our Great Lakes environment.  Cliff Jacobson, winner of the American Canoe Association’s Legends of Paddling Award, will be back again this year.

Attendees will also be able to meet Gary and Joanie McGuffin, authors of numerous books and directors of the Lake Superior Watershed Conservancy.  Kevin Callan, author of thirteen books on canoeing and camping, will share his stories of trips gone well and occasionally not so well.  Other presenters include well known adventurers Jim DuFresne, Doc Fletcher and Howard Rice.

Over 100 exhibits from outdoor clubs, watershed groups, outfitters and nature centers will be on display at the show.  Admission for adults is $10.00, students (with ID) $5.00 and children under 12 are free.  Visit us at http://www.quietwatersymposium.org/.

Lots of fun, and I met a lot of people who all love to paddle.

Hey Bill, I plan to be there all day. I will have the picture board and I will bring two folding chairs. Is there anything else I should bring?

Jeff, if you have any business cards, that would be good. I have a few. The QWS people will provide two chairs, so your call if you want to bring two more. Do you have clips for displaying the banner? That's all I can think of.

Hi all, don't forget to check your drive time. From Oak Park Mapquest has it taking me 1 hour 16 min to drive there.

The six volunteers who will get free admisison are Jeff, Carol, Karen, Margaret, Jim and me. And we have one back-up if someone can't come. I'll send you an e-mail later on with info, and we can coordinate who will be in the booth at what time.

What time do you want me? If Ann is there early, do you want me in the afternoon?

I can be there really early to set up but will need to leave at about 12:00. I live in Lansing area about 30 min away if you need to start Thursday or stay overnight at my place.

Any discussion of SOLAR having an exhibit?

I will discuss with the PR group - as a non-profit the $100 will be waived - but we'll need volunteers which the Bill's team can solicit.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
