This outing is strictly limited to previous Enjoying Michigan Winters participants and instructors. We didn't have an EMW class this year, but we can still have an EMW campout! We'll snowshoe or ski (your choice) from the usual Pigeon Bridge trailhead on Sturgeon Valley Road to the Management Unit campground (the usual Enjoying Michigan Winters campsite, aka "The Tubes") and enjoy ourselves in the snow.
You may choose to hike in either Friday morning or Saturday morning. On either day, plan to travel as a group. I assume that hiking groups can self-organize via email, phone, and smoke signals. When you RSVP please post a comment saying what day you're arriving to facilitate communication. Unless you want to drive up in the very early morning hours, lodge in one of the many motels in Gaylord the night before you hike in.
The startup and ending times shown are estimates.
We will have firewood as for EMW basecamp. Bruce and a few volunteers will set up basecamp on Friday morning. We won't have a big stove set up, however; pack in all your own gear. Except for the fire, we're roughing it.
The cost includes campsite fees and firewood.
If there are enough of us arriving Friday, we'll make arrangements for breakfast at the Sugar Bowl. Ditto for the usual after-hike lunch at BJ's restaurant on Sunday.
Minimum enrollment: 6 winter enthusiasts.
