Afternoon/evening at Proud Lake

Join us again for a BS Hiking annual (& unfortunately last gathering).  We started this back in 2007 and it's been open to other groups since probably around 2009.

We'll use the Proud Lake Annex as a base for an extended time of fun. We've been doing this for a day in winter since 2007, and just found that we'll be able to do it one more time this year. Indoor fun: Bring your cards, games, and food for an evening potluck. Outdoor fun: Hiking for sure and snow shoeing (?), kayaking (?), canoeing (?). With this crazy winter, who knows! Will let you know as we get close to the date. We've had hikes after dark, that tend to be crowd favorites. Other details: 9 PM is listed as the end time since people tend to leave then, but you can stay in the park till 10 PM. Your Recreation Passport will get you in the park. A nominal donation ($1-$2) is requested to offset the cost to rent the annex. Feel free to invite your friends, single or married.

2:15 - 2:30 Hike - east side trails; length TBD.

We had hikes from noon till after sundown. I was on one hike where we spotted snow fleas and a geocache box, and the hikers were gushing about the beauty of the trail. Great stuff! At least one person kayaked. Lots of good food at the potluck, and the last of us stayed till just after 9:30. I'm guessing we had about 40 people at various times during the day. TERRIFIC news that we found out: The state has changed their mind about the annex, and it will remain open for public use. It can continue to be a resource for SOLAR members to consider for classes and activities.

Well attended. Wish I could have stayed longer but enjoyed meeting new people and getting the SOLAR name out there. One comment made by nonSolar person-she really likes the classes offered by the club. Feels Solar people are well trained. Yay!

I talked with Alan Heavner. If you want to get on the water, he'll rent canoes and kayaks, $10/person. You can call him [masked]) if interested, or talk to him when he comes to the annex on Saturday.
Also...the first hike of the day, at noon, starts in the main parking lot. If you're coming just for that hike, you aren't asked to donate to offset the annex rental cost. After the annex opens at 2 PM, hikes will start there.

    Some updated info:

For the first hike of the day, meet in the main parking lot off of Wixom Rd at 11:45. The hike will start at noon. We'll hike the east side of the park for 5-6 miles. If lost or late, call Steve [masked]), the hike leader.

At 2 PM the River Hawk Annex will be open. There will be a hike starting from there in the 2:15/2:30 timeframe, led by Carol. Length will depend on trail conditions. Bring food for a potluck, which traditionally has started around 4:30 or 5 PM, but will be whenever people are hungry. Most likely we'll hike again in the evening. Sunset will be at 7:41 PM and there will be a full moon this weekend, so an evening stroll should be quite nice. You're welcome to bring games if you want, for indoor pleasure.

You're welcome to come for all or some of the day. Hope to see you!
