New York City Center (Arlene Shuler, President & CEO) has played a defining role in the cultural life of the city since 1943. It was Manhattan’s first performing arts center, dedicated by Mayor Fiorello La Guardia with a mission to make the best in music, theater and dance accessible to all audiences.

Today, City Center is home to many distinguished companies, including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, City Center’s Principal Dance Company, as well as Manhattan Theatre Club; a roster of renowned national and international visiting artists; and its own critically acclaimed and popular programs. LATIN MUSIC

Sponsored by Jazz at Lincoln Center

The mission of Jazz at Lincoln Center is to entertain, enrich and expand a global community for Jazz through performance, education and advocacy. We believe Jazz is a metaphor for Democracy. Because jazz is improvisational, it celebrates personal freedom and encourages individual expression. Because jazz is swinging, it dedicates that freedom to finding and maintaining common ground with others. Because jazz is rooted in the blues, it inspires us to face adversity with persistent optimism.

Throckmorton Fine Art Ruven Afanador | Ángel Gitano: The Men of Flamenco
Ends February 28

Throckmorton Fine Art ~ Ruven Afanador Ángel Gitano: The Men of Flamenco

Ruven Afanador Ángel Gitano | The Men of Flamenco is a Rizzoli art book, short film, and fine art photography exhibition that started its American and European tour at Throckmorton Fine Art.

Ruven Afanador is a New York fashion and celebrity photographer, originally from Colombia. He has been fascinated with the culture of Spain, it’s bullfights and Flamenco dancers, since he was a boy. This is Afanador’s third in a series that started with bull fighters, and the women of Flamenco.

You’ve never seen Flamenco like this, and probably never will again. The Spaniards are shocked at how much Afanador got the very conservative Flamenco community of Spain to open up. Afanador doesn’t take pictures, he creates them out of his rich imagination.

Afanador has a large following in the Fashion world. His work is not expensive to buy, but rapidly appreciates in value. The exhibition closes this month. Go see it.

Throckmorton is the top gallery in the United States for Latin American photography, pre-Columbian art, and Chinese jades and statuary. We always thought they were the best in New York, but their reputation in the global art world is much bigger than that.
