Harvest/Plant Exchange & Organic Disease/Pest Control Discussion

All of our gardens should be in full swing by end of June so I'm planning an exchange (swap), without anything else on the agenda. We will set up and swap early and I'm hoping there will be lots of harvest to share! Since this is an exchange only event I'm asking that members that attend must bring at least one item. Examples are harvested fruits and veggies, plants from your garden, or something homemade using an ingredient that was homegrown.

**I know I said exchange only event for this meetup, but I couldn't resist this opportunity. I have secured a garden expert from Armstrong Garden Center to come to this exchange and have a discussion about organic disease/pest control. Halla will be there at 11am and start at 11:15am- 12:15pm and be available for questions for a short time after. Be sure to bring a picture or clippings if you have a question for her! While we can set up before and during her talk the exchange will happen after the discussion has ended**

Had a great time with everyone! Learned some new things from Halla about disease and pest control. Thank you all for bringing all of your beautiful veg and plants! My only problem is that I'm running out of room for all my new plants :)

I have been able to secure a expert from Armstrong Garden Center to come to our meetup and speak. I know this event is listed as an exchange only event but I feel like I couldn't pass up the opportunity. Halla from Armstrong will be there at 11am sharp to discuss organic disease and pest control! She will talk mostly about edibles but feel free to bring a photo clippings of other plant problems to present to her.

Hi Michelle I am so bummed that I am going to miss this meeting. We fly out of town on that date so I can't make it. Bummer! I'll be at the next one for sure!

I can possibly bring more lemons too. I'll be coming a it late - coming from church. I'll still have ice and coffee grounds reserved from Starbucks. Can someone pick up grounds and ice?

I think it would be best not to bring citrus to the swap from you yard in whole fruit form. It doesn't mean we can't do Mari's lemonade idea though. If those with citrus are willing to juice their extra lemons at home and bring the juice then we can make a batch of lemonade from it. I will make the simple syrup, Mari will bring the mint. So, if you have lemons to share, that you are willing to juice let us know and we will plan accordingly. ;)

Actually, it's worse than I thought. The quarantine is not just Hacienda Heights environs anymore: "All of Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura counties, as well as parts of San Bernardino, San Diego, Santa Barbara and Riverside counties, are under quarantine for Asian citrus psyllid."

There's a citrus disease in SoCal that is a danger to our entire citrus industry and state economy, not to mention our ability to enjoy home-grown citrus. Hacienda Heights & surrounding areas are under a quarantine. Even if you're not in the quarantine area, I highly urge you to act as if you are because the stakes are so high. The CA Dept of Forestry & Agriculture is asking folks not to move citrus. http://www.saveourcitrus.org/

Won't it be cool if someone had a plethora of lemons and we all join in and make lemonade? :) Maybe I can bring some lemons

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
