I don't know about you but I feel summer crashing onto me like a giant wave I didn't see coming. I've got lettuce bolting, radishes going to seed, aphids the size of ladybugs attacking my kale, and I'm ignoring it all because of all the end of the year activities at my kid's schools. One more week and it's a whole new ball game, for better and worse! I just wanted to send out an email with some of the happenings at SPHomegrownExchange for those who haven't been to the site lately.
- Our next exchange meetup will be on Sunday the 24th of June. It's at my house so those who missed meeting my worms will get another chance to see them. Also, I'm lifting the ban for now on bringing citrus to the exchange, as long as those bringing citrus please take care to thoroughly wash their fruit and make sure not to bring any branches or leaves from the tree. It seems that while the citrus disease can be carried on the fruit it mostly is transferred from leaves and branches. Here is the link for the event.
- I also added another event that I am attending and thought worthy of a meetup addition. The Huntington Gardens is opening up the Ranch for an open house tour. They only open it to the public a few times a year, it's an inspiring urban agriculture garden, I highly recommend a visit. Here is the link for the event:
- Not sure if you all are aware, but we have a facebook page, tumblr site, and twitter presence. The links for all three are on the meetup site in the left column under "follow us". Members can comment and post on the facebook page, I have been posting pics and garden tips, links to helpful information etc. Don't forget to like the SPHomegrownExchange facebook page when you visit!
- Lastly, if you have something that you have to harvest but can't devour, use the message board to exchange in between meetups. We are all pretty local, and I'm sure wiling to pick up whatever is offered. Thanks everyone for your time, I'm looking forward to seeing you all soon!
