Meditation Hike @ Durant Nature Park

We'll be parking and hiking from the NORTH parking lot at Durant Nature Park ... be sure you have the right parking lot!

I was out hiking this park at the end of March on a day with blustery winds in the tree tops - a surreal and powerful experience.  I found the intermix of different elements - forest, field, prairie, river, and lake - provided a kaleidoscope of views and sensory experiences.

For this walk, we'll be walking on several different trails that follow the shorelines of Durant (Lower) Lake and Upper Lake and then head into the natural area preserve with five creek crossings and a section that parallels the creek.  The trails are fairly flat (few rocks and roots) with some foot-focus needed at the creek crossings.

I'm guesstimating that the entire walk is 3 to 3.5 miles; plan on about 2 hours for the walk, including stops.  On the walk we'll be using several focusing practices to stay in the here-and-now (AKA getting out of our heads and into our bodies) - more about this when we meet.

We'll be walking clockwise on the trails - walking around Durant (Lower) Lake, then the Upper Lake, then off into the wooded area.  We'll be walking-and-talking while we head out on the White House Road; shifting into silence when we turn onto the Lakeside Trail North.  We'll hold our silence for the remainder of our walk which will include Lakeside Trail South, Fishing Trail, Beaver Pond Trail, and Border Trail.  Near the end of the walk, we'll stop at the Whale Rocks for 10-minutes of standing/sitting silence before finishing up our walk.  Here's a map of the park: Durant Nature Park

This was my first time with the group and boy what a treat! After the crazy/ stressful week I've had, connecting with the trees and water really helped me to release all the negativity energy and absorb positive energy :-) Thank you Leslie for including me.

What a delightful day to be out on the trails in silence. And a great place to get filled up on both tree and water energy. For me, creek (movement) registered more than lake (stillness) ... all good!
