August Tuesday Learnshop—Focus Stacking—August 27th, 7:00 p.m.

“Focus Stacking” is the subject. Jim Morgenthaler, an SPS member, is our presenter.

When shooting macro, even with the smallest apertures, you can’t get enough of the subject in focus. Focus stacking involves taking a series of shots at different focal points and combining them in Photoshop so that the entire subject is sharply in focus. Jim will demonstrate both shooting and processing techniques and will have a step-by-step handout sheet for attendees. He will also demonstrate the Camranger wireless tethered shooting device that can be used to automate focus stacking shooting and can also allow you to control your camera from as much as 150 feet away.

Jim, in addition to being an excellent photographer, has taught photography for 40 years. He retired from the University of Ga. where he produced educational media. He currently teaches adult ed. classes in Photoshop and Fundamentals of Photography at the UGA Center for Continuing Education.

SPS Monthly Meetings (First Friday of each month) are for its members and guests. While competition entries at these monthly meetings are restricted to currently paid-up members, we ALWAYS welcome visitors interested in photography to attend.   The Leanshops are intended for members, but again, we welcome visitors.  If you attend regularly, we ask that you help support the club (which pays for the rental of the facilities, supplies, and equipment) by becoming a member!

Thanks, Jim, for explaining some of the latest tools the engineers have put into the hands of those who aspire to precisely replicate nature and the world around us. It was a terrific presentation.
