November—SPECIAL Presentation by PARISH KOHANIM

[Note the change in location.  Still at the Briarcliff Baptist Church, but for November 1st we will meet in the Sanctuary.  See instructions above regarding parking.]

We are very excited to announce that the November SPS Meeting will be a special event associated with Atlanta Celebrates Photography and sponsored by Canon. Internationally recognized photographer, Parish Kohanim, will be joining us to share his philosophy and passion on the art of photography and present selections from his vast portfolio produced over the last three decades. Parish has been a Canon "Explorer of Light" for almost twenty years and has been featured in such publications as Communications Arts, Digital Photo Pro, and Professional Photographer. His commercial work has appeared repeatedly in publications such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Forbes, and Time, and he has photographed a multitude of celebrities including Donald Trump and Robert Redford. Within the past few years Parish has been working with Cirque performers and will be publishing a unique book on their incredible art, performing impossibly graceful feats of the human body. Parish's presentation will include images taken throughout his successful years in commercial photography, giving "behind the scenes" anecdotes, and revealing what it takes to put a major shoot together and execute it successfully. He will also share some of his fine-art photography. These images include painterly portraits that are works of art, combining the subject and unique backgrounds in brilliant colors or soft, moody pastels. His stunning, luminous black and white works demonstrate his expert use of multitudes of tonalities creating his distinctive and unique signature and style. The presentation includes images and a short video on how true artists strive for perfection in any field.

To view Parish Kohanim's impressive portfolio go to You can also see Parish's fine art in person by visiting the Parish Kohanim Fine art Gallery located in the heart of the art district in midtown Atlanta.

Since this is a special sponsored event we would love for you to bring all of your friends who are passionate about photography. All members from other local camera clubs are welcome, and this event is open to the public. Please help us spread the word about this exciting event.

Parish Kohanim is offering two workshops early next year--one at the Ringling Museum in Florida in March and one at his studio in Atlanta in April.  Our president, Mike Boatright, attended one of Parish's workshops earlier this year and highly recommends the experience.  For more information on Parish's workshops please visit Parish Kohanim's facebook page, website, or give them a call.

In addition to our very special presentation by Parish Kohanim, we will have our monthly photography competition. November’s theme is Still Life (VINTAGE). A “still life” is a work of art depicting mostly inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which may be either natural (food, flowers, plants, rocks, or shells) or man-made (drinking glasses, books, vases, jewelry, coins, pipes, and so on). For this competition, images may be older than 12 months (no limit – Vintage category).

I really enjoyed the presentation. Encouraged me to 'think outside the box', and use my own judgment in terms of the definition of "creative". I will break the rules, when it seems the rules are confining. Great session...

The images were off the chart wonderful, but the acoustics in the room where I was sitting were so bad I couldn't much of what he said. Maybe I need to get a hearing test.

A top notch presention. However, in the future, we might consider having a presenter with this level of knowledge and experience to present during a Tuesday Learnshop. They would have a longer period of time because they wouldn't have to compete with time needed for the club's photo competition. Parish was obviously rushed and had much more to share. I think we all would have benefited more from his vast knowledge and experience if he had had more time.
