The unusual collection of barn-shaped brick railroad warehouses in the century-old Pullman Yard on the edge of Kirkwood has sat mostly vacant and surrounded by weeds for nearly two decades under state ownership. If you've driven down DeKalb Ave. in the Candler Park area you've probably seen these old buildings across the railroad tracks. Although fenced in and posted, many graffiti "artists" have left their marks on both the interior and exterior of the buildings. Photographers have also found their way inside and you can see some examples of photographs taken there at this Flickr site:
There are lots of photos ops, from wide angle to macro, and this is a great place to practice your HDR. You might want to bring flash as well. I've tried to have us there from late afternoon to after sunset to take advantage of a full range of lighting conditions.
IMPORTANT: There is a $5 charge to participate in this meetup because we have to pay for a security officer to open the property and stay with us during the entire time we are there. In addition, everyone will have to sign a release before entering the premises. This meetup is limited to 20 photographers and you must be an SPS member to participate. Please do not RSVP unless you are sure you are coming and if your plans change, please update your RSVP so others will have an opportunity to take your place.
Parking is limited to the street along the property, so I would encourage folks to car pool if at all possible.
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to post them here or email me. This should be a great outing and I look forward to seeing folks there!
