March Learnshop: "Old School/New School"--Tips and Tricks for Editing Portraits

The Learnshop on Portrait Photography is only one of a diverse set of topics covered throughout the year.  Learnshops are held every fourth Tuesday of the month (except December).

SPS Monthly Meetings (First Friday of each month) are for its members and guests. While competition entries at these monthly meetings are restricted to currently paid-up members, we ALWAYS welcome visitors interested in photography to attend.   The Learnshops (Fourth Tuesday of each month) are intended for members, but again, we welcome visitors.  If you attend regularly, we ask that you help support the club (which pays for the rental of the facilities, supplies, and equipment) by becoming a member!

Thank you everyone for attending and for your kind words. I felt like I fumbled around a bit there in the dark, but I'm so happy to hear that some new skills were learned.

Thanks for showing me how to use the liquify filter. It was incredibly helpful to hear what most women are comfortable having photoshopped. I feared going too far so I just didn't liquify at all. Now I've already used the techniques on a few portraits from a wedding I shot last weekend.

Thanks to Laura and Cherie for confirming that I should never be allowed to photograph human beings (except from great distances or where they don't mind being presented in all their un-Photoshopped glory!). Even as a non-people photographer, I enjoyed the many tips and tricks that Laura and Cherie demonstrated. Now I just need someone to come up with "NaturePro" software that will do for landscapes what PortraitPro seems to effortlessly do for people!

Jeff, you just need something that attaches to your tripod.

Thanks Cherie and Laura! I took notes for sure! Your techniques are great, and you've inspired me to work a little more in Photoshop and not rely so much on the other programs. Your masking abilities are great. Thanks, again.

I enjoyed learning about post processing with portraits. I have not used any programs yet so it was fascinating to see what could be done. Really enjoyed seeing all the different techniques!

Great meetup by Laura and Cherie! I am so impressed by their ability to envision what will improve someone's portrait and their skills in bringing that vision to life. Some of the changes seemed so small but made so much difference! Now, if I can just find out where to get a Warp Tool that works on the real 3-D waistline...

Will this be hands on ,do we need to bring our computer?

    March 9, 2014

    • Laura K.

This is a demonstration of two different ways to retouch photographs. If you have Portrait Professional and want to bring your computer and work along on one of your photographs, that would be ok, but only if you want to.
