The SPS September monthly meeting includes a competition theme entitled “People Performing.” Performing? We know that “All the world is a stage.” We are looking for images of the men and women on that stage—players such as: dancers, musicians, and athletes. Show us your best work of others (adults or children) producing their best work.
Our presenter and judge will be Richard Calmes, one of the most prominent dance photographers in the United States. Whether setting up his equipment in studios, or wading through the warm surf of the Pacific Ocean, Richard has employed his discerning eye to create amazing images. His travels have taken him from New York City’s graffitied neighborhoods to the historic sites of Washington D.C. with glorious dancers in tow. From urban streets to Appalachian meadows, Richard is always excited to display dancers in unexpectedly interesting surroundings.
His images have graced the covers and the interiors of numerous periodicals, and several feature stories have been written about his approach to his art. He has also been featured in many gallery exhibitions from Great Britain to Atlanta, as well as the preeminent digital photography publication in China.
To learn more about Richard and his work, check out his website.
Richard's presentation is entitled "The Challenges of Capturing the Moment." He will show a lot of "behind-the-scenes" shots and the "making-of" shots.
Information regarding Richard’s presentation topic will appear here shortly.
SPS Monthly Meetings (First Friday of each month) are for its members and guests. While competition entries at these monthly meetings are restricted to currently paid-up members, we ALWAYS welcome visitors interested in photography to attend. The Learnshops (Fourth Tuesday of each month) are intended for members, but again, we welcome visitors. If you attend regularly, we ask that you help support the club (which pays for the rental of the facilities, supplies, and equipment) by becoming a member!
