Atlanta BeltLine Lantern Parade 2014!

Atlanta BeltLine Lantern Parade is an evening event where everyone is invited to come out with their lanterns and walk the BeltLine. Last year, 10,000 people came! Come out an photograph all the amazing lanterns. Great opportunity for some night time photography.

Here's a link to their Facebook page:

I missed last year's parade, but I do have some pics from another lantern parade which was part of a public art night I've been to in the past.

I was there but i guess i missed everyone. I'm thinking this wasnt the best night to find a group within a crowd. I'll be posting soon.

It was definitely fun to see all the lanterns. Next time I think I'll find a spot closer to the beginning of the parade because by the time it got to me at the Virginia Ave overpass near Piedmont Park, it was (ironically) really too dark and there wasn't enough ambient light to get the people. I posted some more images on my SmugMug site -- I think they display a little better there. http://milsteen.smugmug.com/Atl...

My daughter and I walked in the parade and I failed to get any pictures of her. Lots of people stopped her for pics. I've spotted us in one of Jeff's bridge photos. If anyone one has a photo of a 24" yellow smiley face, please share.

I saw an overview pic in the facebook page cover photo. Any idea which place is that? I'm just trying to figure out the best overview I should try. I'll go by marta.

I don't know where that pic was taken. You should be able to look up the overpass address I posted yesterday on google maps and switch to street view and get an idea of what each of the 3 look like.

I read they were starting on edgewood and krog on the right side of 75 near ga state sculpture studio and ending in piedmont park, but it did not say which road they were going on.. The starting place is not a good area so be careful.. If I were setting it up I would go up piedmont rd and close a couple of lanes. If I find anything else I will let you know.

They will be walking the Beltline trail. I posted a link to a google map that shows the route. They're expecting over 10,000 people, so that area will be different than a typical Saturday night.

Hoping for a rain-free evening tomorrow night!

http://art.beltline.org/lantern... has posted additional logistics Google map of the trail http://bit.ly/WoBhYg (I can't figure out how to remove the alt routes, but the blue path is the BeltLine.)

From what I can tell there are overpasses around these addresses if anyone want to shoot from above.

I have not been to this event. Their Facebook page mentions MARTA. Line-up is 4 blocks from the MLK MARTA Station and the Midtown MARTA Station is 6 blocks from the finish.

Some people might prefer to find a spot somewhere along the 2 mi parade route to set up and just photograph from there.
