February SPS Club Meeting

February's competition theme is "Landscape": The subject for this theme should be a natural outdoor setting showing an expansive point of view. Grand vistas with few (if any) man-made objects are what we’re looking for.

Nature photographer and long-time Georgia Sierra Club Conservation Leader, Larry Winslett, will be giving a presentation on the highlights and timeline of the Wilderness Act in celebration of the upcoming 50th Anniversary of the Act, one of America’s cornerstone conservation laws. He will outline the provisions of the Act, discuss the contributions of the Sierra Club and the nature photographers whose work greatly influenced the passage of the Act, identify the existing wilderness areas in Georgia, and talk about upcoming initiatives and opportunities for photographers to participate in the celebration.

I was so inspired by all the images I saw last night! I loved them all and loved seeing all the different points of view that were taken. Everyone should be commended on putting their work "out there" for evaluation. It is all about learning and improving on your skills. I thought each and everyone of them were perfect as they were! Each and every artist should be commended on a job well done! Bravo!

Larry Winslett did a great job of judging. There were so many great landscape photos that it had to be quite a task to pick the best of the best.

  • Fernando

Can I pay the club's membership on Friday and participate in the competition? If yes, how many and what size the prints should be?

    Thanks a lot

Hi Trish and Fernando, yes you can definitely pay your dues the same night you enter your first competition! Be sure to come closer to 7:10 so you're not rushed. You can sign up for a personal membership or family if you have more than one photographer in your family participating. All the details on competition rules and how to submit images can be found on our "about" pages here: http://www.meetup.com...

The meeting is at 7:30, but if you want to enter some photo prints, come at about 7-7:15. Meet lots of really great folks and take a look at the entries as they are put on display, if you don't want to enter work. See you there.

I'm new to this meet up thingy. The notice here says the meeting is at 7:30 pm but the meeting reminder says it is from 4:30 to 7:30. Am I missing something here? What time is this meeting? Please help me out! Thanks!

    January 29, 2013

    • Roger E.

Hi Leslie, the monthly meetings start at 7:30 PM.

  • Ken R.

Not sure what that minder was for but the Friday meeting is definitely at 7:30pm! You'll actually want to get there closer to 7:15p so you can get a good seat and take a few minutes to view all the inspiring prints that will be there for the competition too!
