Fall Foliage Ride

For the last several years, Coleman Powersports has hosted and sponsored a Fall Foliage Ride (usually in connection with the Apple Blossom Festival at Gray Mountain Retreat). Last year the ride was attended by 65 bikers.

We are expecting 45 in Falls Church and 70 in Woodbridge. This year they have invited STAR 474 to lead one of the three groups on the ride. The three groups will each have their own route. The three groups are Sport Bikes, Cruisers, and Trikes. The route is final and should be a great 120 mile outbound ride.

The only thing that made this a 4-Star ride instead of a 5-Star ride was the 46 degree starting temp. The roads were some of the very best for riding in the area. The gas stop was a challenge with over a hundred riders arriving in six groups over a 30 minute period. Luray Caverns Cafe left a lot to be desired for a place to eat.
I didn't like the super sized group. We had nearly 40 bikes in my group and I had no idea what was happening behind me more than about 18 bikes back. On rare occasions I looked back and noted the group was missing quite a few bi,ears. So I slowed for a few minutes and they reappeared. I was very surprised that the group arrived virtually intact, spread out quite a bit, but together.

Still it was a great day to ride with temps rising to the mid-60's.

Chilly start but sun finally burned off the clouds into a beautiful Fall day. The route contained many backroads I had not yet discovered.

At this time Falls Church is expecting to have 45 bikers and Woodbridge expects almost 70 bikers. Dress warm, in layers, cruisers will not be going fast. Should be a really nice ride. Bring your cameras and enjoy the day.

Feeling a little under the weather this afternoon. Hoping a good night's sleep is all I need and I will still be there in the morning.

After several months of school every evening and weekend and work the rest of the time I'm looking forward to getting back on the bike! (even if it is only a couple weeks reprieve; before it all begins again).

I had already RSVPed with NCMG but look forward to seeing all of you at some point either en-route, at the pit-stop or at our final destination. Here is the Route Map link from another group http://www.mapquest.com/?version=1.0&hk=6-ebMfRX5G and there is also a link to a one page pdf file on the Coleman site http://www.wherethepoweris.com/eventslist.htm?groupId=32638&itemId=183752&utm_source=Fall+Foliage+Ride+2013&utm_campaign=Fall+Foliage+Ride+2013&utm_medium=email
