Ride to Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester, VA

The 87th Annual Apple Blossom Festival is being held from April 25 to May 4, 2014 in Winchester Virginia. Chapter 474 will ride out to the festival on SUNDAY, April 27, 2014 to visit the Loudoun Street Mall.

Our departure point is the Sheetz Gas Station at Rt 15 and I-66 in Haymarket, VA. Kickstands up at 09:30 am. We will avoid highways as much as possible on the way there. However we will be on Route 50 when we get west of Paris, VA. That section is a 4 lane highway, so for that stretch we will be doing around 60 mph. It will be a short but hopefully pleasant ride.

The festival schedule (as of 7 Apr 14) doesn't have much listed for Sunday. There is a Weekend in the Park event happening that will have an arts & crafts show, a car show, and a boat & RV show. There is a $5 entrance fee.

The pedestrian mall isn't far away with many options for lunch. I have never attended this event before, so I'm not sure if there will be food vendors in the park area.

While there is no official group ride departing the festival, I will offer to lead a group to return to the Fairfax area around 3 - 3:30 PM. Anyone and everyone is welcome to follow me to more familiar roads. The return ride will be a bit more direct, i.e., mostly Route 50 east.

I have a gpx file of the route for anyone with a GPS. Just post a comment requesting it. I'll email it to you.

The ride was great. However, when I tried to act like Roger and take us down a gravel road and the group threatened to hang and quarter me. No Apple Blossom Festival in sight but great back roads though. Low Water bridge was nearly at high water as we crossed. We stopped by the Apple House BBQ in Linden, VA. It was packed. The food was good, and the staff were friendly and attentive.

My friends, If you wish you can join me at the Golden Coral for breakfast between 7:45 and 8 am. I plan on departing there to Haymarket at 8:45. Departure from Haymarket is at 9:30 am.
Check your email, I have made two slight modifications to the route I recieved. I don't think Roger wanted us to ride the highway there and back, so I locked down some back roads and returned via Low Water Bridge.

I'm working on installing some extra lights on my bike so I may not get there.... If there's someone willing to help I would greatly appreciate it. I'm trying to read the wiring schematic in the manual and match that with what is actually on the bike...
