Environment and Climate Responsible Investing

This is a Green Speakers Series Event.
Note: This event is not specifically related to climate, but the same investment strategies used for environmentally responsible investing also apply to climate.

Do your investments support clean air and water (and a safe climate)? Being at a remove from their investments – with maybe a financial advisor, mutual fund managers, and stockbrokers in between – many people may not know what companies they are invested in, let alone the companies' environmental practices. Investments do more than make money; they reflect the investor's values and help determine the direction of economic growth. An increasing number of people are using their investments to reward and encourage good stewardship of natural capital.

Financial advisor Jake Barnett of Morgan Stanley specializes in this field, and will share his knowledge of its motivations, opportunities, and record of success. The talk will be informational, rather than a sales pitch for Morgan Stanley.

Jake's professional focus has consistently been on the intersection of social/environmental causes and the realm of economics. He has spent time with a micro-finance group in Chicago, fundraising for an orphanage in Ghana, and as a FOCUS St. Louis Coro Fellow. His degree is in International Studies, Economics and Political Science from Ohio Wesleyan University.

This is very timely! Thanks for putting it on the docket! I hope to come, but will have to be late and leave early unfortunately due to other commitments.

I've been looking into divesting and re-investing fossil fuel free, as one of the most powerful individual actions we can take as individuals. I'd really enjoy attending, but I have to choose my trips from Columbia carefully (even with my Prius).

I have to be a "maybe" for this, I'm sorry. But I am going to try to come.
