Tuesday 19 August - “Transportation: I, You, We Get Around”

Presented By: St. Louis Green Drinks
Cost: $3.00 donation suggested

Transportation (with buildings and food) is one of our three heaviest impacts on ecological footprint: it uses 28% of total U.S. energy. Daily, we and our things (e.g., groceries, work materials) travel between home, work, school, stores, entertainment venues, etc. Over 86% of U.S. passenger miles per year are by automobile and light truck, averaging only 18-25 mpg and 1.55 persons per vehicle. An average one-way commute for U.S. workers is 25 minutes. Produce in the U.S. travels an average of 1,300-2,000 miles from farm to fork. About 97% of energy consumed for transportation is fossil fuels, which causes pollution (e.g., nitrous oxides, particulate matter, smog) and 27% of greenhouse gas emissions. However, there are more environmentally responsible means to get from Points A to B, quickly, safely, and affordably. Tuesday 19 August 2014 from 6:30-9:00 p.m. join us for some hydration as we go for a spin on the topic of moving us and our stuff.

Thanks for the additional info Jill.

If you get a chance, perhaps you can mention our Sunday event to the attendees? I won't be able to make the Transportation meeting unfortunatley.

I'd like to come, but my little Prius is just too much of a gas hog! Just kidding, I plan on attending, and if anyone else from the Alton area wants to share my 50+ MPG, you're more than welcome.
