I have always been interested in climate change. It is the certainly the biggest problem that the human race has ever faced and so, the inadequate discussion taking place about how to combat climate change has always surprised and disgusted me. After researching climate change for years, I am very passionate about it because I feel that if we fail to act now, my peers, myself, and our children will live with the repercussions for the entirety of our lives and that is not something I will accept.
By participating in this group, I hope to gain a more in-depth understanding of climate change and its repercussions. I also hope to engage in an informed discussion of how to prevent it. By participating in this group, I hope to bring the skills, knowledge, and confidence I acquire to my own presentations and efforts in my community.
My name is Rebecca Laurent. I am a junior at Edwardsville High School. I was trained by former vice-president Al Gore through the Climate Reality Project in San Francisco in August of 2012. I give presentations in my community about climate change.
