Ok that's a lame title, but this place is anything but lame. Mai Lee is consistently regarded as THE best Vietnamese food in St. Louis. They have a HUGE menu that consists mostly of Vietnamese fare, but also includes several options of Chinese and Thai items. They are very well known for their Pho, which is a type of Vietnamese soup, and it comes in a very large portion that actually could pass as an entree itself. The prices are very reasonable, here's the website if you would like to peruse the menu: maileerestaurant.com
The restaurant is co-owned by Qui Tran and his mother. I have met Qui and he is one of the nicest people - very approachable and very passionate about his restaurant and the whole food scene is STL. If you take a look at the menu, you might feel very overwhelmed. One hint to eating here: tell Qui, or one of the many friendly waiters/waitresses, what you have an appetitie for (shrimp, catfish, curry, noodles, pho, etc.) and they always have a great suggestion(s).
Mai Lee does NOT take reservations (unfortunately), and they are consistently pretty crowded, so I'm choosing a weekday meetup here at an early time to hopefully avoid a large crowd and long wait-time. Right now, I'm going to cap it at 6. If much more than that are interested, I will HIGHLY encourage someone to volunteer to be a co-organizer and opt for another table.
This will be a tasty one! Not-to-miss if you are a Vietnamese food fan!
