Indie Film: "The Silence"

Movie: "The Silence" at Plaza Frontenac Cinema, the 6:40 pm showing. If you arrive late to the event, look for our Meetup signs inside the auditorium. If the ticket booth is closed, you can buy a ticket at the concession stand.

Drinks/discussion after the movie: Starbucks, just north of Schneithorst's

What is the movie about?

On a hot summer day, a bicycle is found in a field of wheat—the exact scene of an unsolved crime committed 23 years ago. Just as before, a 13-year-old girl is missing, bringing back horrific memories to the mother of the first victim and the now-retired investigating officer of that case. Why has the first crime been so exactly replicated, and does it mean that both were committed by the same man, so many years apart? In his strikingly commanding debut feature, Swiss-born Baran bo Odar has crafted a haunting crime thriller with a fascinatingly diverse range of characters, and edge-of-your-seat suspense. The gripping plot, which takes several unexpected turns, deals with grief, obsession and the persistence of guilt.

This film was so very dark, even a bit morbid. The music, and sound effect were well timed and did an excellent job of helping set up the movie

Not a movie for the faint of heart

Depressing film... thought provoking, and highly emotional (which I usually enjoy), but maybe a bit too much loss and loneliness without enough character development? I hate to say this (because we're talking about pedophilia after all), but I think there was enough there for a series... Anyway, my first STL Nerdy Girls meetup- Thx.

I plan to be there with time to spare, but traffic might make it difficult. Look for me near the concession stand, holding a sign. :-) Hope many of you can join me at Starbucks afterward to discuss the movie and/or other nerdy things!
