Wizard World Comic Con - Nerdy Girls Table

We are no longer able to take payments for tickets. If you want to attend, you'll need to purchase your own ticket.

We have been invited to participate in Wizard World Comic Con this upcoming March.

In exchange for helping promote the show and contributing to the overall experience for guests, the comic con provides a table on the show floor, comp tickets, and discounted tickets. Having a presence at a Wizard World show is an opportunity to promote our group to Wizard Worlds audience, recruit new members, interact with a fantastic fan base, and raise money for any affiliated charities.

We would need to man a table all three days. If you want to participate, please sign up for one or more shifts here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AnH1sUPkwT6AdGZBRlR2ZnJfTThCRXpPaVdzeHQ3VGc#gid=0

We receive 4 free tickets and 4 discounted tickets ($30 each). I would suggest we spread out the cost depending on how many folks are working the table.

I also think we should meet ahead of time and plan some things to have on display. I want to get some cards with our logo (coming soon), Meetup page, and Facebook page.

Wonderful! The table was very popular, there were a lot of really interested people, and the event as a whole was wonderful!

I was there today for a good 6 hours. My legs actually hurt so bad it hurts to sit, lol.

I might try to make it out... Just had surgery, but my daughter wants to go to this! Keep your fingers crossed!

Hey Carolyn, I'm volunteering Friday and Sunday but only paid you $20. Can you contact me if I owe you more money?

    1 · March 18, 2013

  • Katie S.

I can help all three days if you need me to! Should we dress any special way?

    March 16, 2013

    • Carolyn N.

Yes, just the one day. For a sec I thought I had a weekend ticket, but they were one day tickets originally.

      March 17, 2013

    • Katie S.

I could do the Saturday evening shift but that morning I'm working, I'm assuming the ticket is only good for the day you work, correct?

      March 17, 2013

  • Katie S.

Are the tickets for one or all three days?

How do I get my tic ?

    March 16, 2013

    • Stephanie

At this time tickets can't be picked up until Thursday or Friday of next week. Carolyn may be picking them up to distribute them but we're still trying to work out a few kinks. Just keep a look out for a more detailed informational email!

I am SOOO sorry but my husband and I can't make it to this event. :( I'm having surgery on the 25th and I've already gotten staph infections twice so I need to be careful and make sure my house is super clean. Have fun!!

    March 16, 2013

    • Stephanie

      Completely understandable! Good luck!

Went through pay pal for the discount tic

    March 16, 2013

  • amy

Soooo, am I the only one new to all of this pay pal stuff? Do we pick up our tickets somewhere or do we just use our conf number?

    March 15, 2013

    • Carolyn N.

Did you pay to me using the payment feature on this event?

      March 15, 2013

  • Christina

Carolyn, I paid through the dues button on the meet-up page. Is that going to work?

    March 15, 2013

  • Shinywaterbead

I don't need a ticket because I am on a panel about geek girls and they offered me a weekend wristband. :D

Where and when are we meeting? And Natalie? Where do you live?

    March 13, 2013

I just found out that my husband has a fantasy baseball draft this Saturday. (His Nerdy Boy meeting. ) I know I voted for Saturday afternoon for the meeting but I can't make it now unless I can get a ride. :(

Carolyn - I can't remember what I asked for but I'll take a weekend ticket since I'm tabling both Friday and Sunday.

I am already going with another group. Will try to find the table and stop by to say hello. I am going as Hit Girl. Will probably be one of many!

can volunteer friday 3/22; I have updated the spreadsheet.

Dianne, will you need a one day ticket or weekend ticket?

      March 12, 2013

  • amy

I saw that someone "pulled out" due to moving. I can come early Friday if need be. Call if there are any questions or problems with volunteering. Have a great rest of the week!

    March 7, 2013

  • amy

I signed up for Frida...I'm not available the rest of the weekend, wish I was. Where and how do we meet/get in? What can we bring?

    March 7, 2013

  • Karen

Carolyn, If it's good for the group, I want to commit to helping with the table on Friday. Where do I go to see the shifts and sign up for one?

    March 5, 2013

  • Christina

Hey Carolyn, I thought I had signed up for a shift but I didn't see it on the Google Doc (I just added myself). If you can use me, great, if not, no problem. I had signed up for Friday night 5:30 - 8:30, but I'm free most of the weekend.

    March 4, 2013

    • Carolyn N.

That's perfect because I need to do the Fourth Friday Foodie Nights event that night :)

      March 4, 2013

I am so, so sorry I am going to have to pull out of helping with this event. We just found out we are closing on our new home that week, so that weekend we will be moving in. I'm so bummed, I really wanted to go!

  • Chelsey W.

Are the discounted tickets for the day we are working or for the entire weekend?

    February 20, 2013

    • Carolyn N.

I'm not quite sure. I have sent multiple emails to my contact (who then passed me along to a new contact) at Wizard World. This is very frustrating for all of us, I know. Hopefully I will have an answer soon. I'm not quite sure how we're supposed to promote this event if we're having a not so satisfactory experience communicating with the staff.

      February 20, 2013

  • Fox

Hey question! The tickets that we will be getting to work the event- will they be day tickets or for the whole weekend?

Also, today Groupon has a deal for a Friday ticket at $20, so anyone going that day with significant others or pals or enemies can get a deal.

    February 6, 2013

    • Carolyn N.

I am still waiting on a response from my contact. I've emailed a number of times. Might see if I can find a phone number to call tomorrow. I think the deal is up for a little while. Hope to hear something before Friday.

Let me know how to help.

    February 4, 2013

If you sign up for more than one shift, we won't need to pay for as many tickets :)

    January 15, 2013

    • Stephanie

I signed up for 1 shift but if I need to work longer on Sunday, I can do that, I just wanted to make sure everyone got a chance to participate!

      January 25, 2013

    • Fox

I also just signed up for the second shift for Friday, so I'll be there for both.

I can get a tablecloth with our logo on it for about $50-60 (half of retail). :)

Does anyone have a costume prepared? I really want to be Kaylee from Firefly.

    January 15, 2013

    • Carolyn N.

I've never really made a costume for a comic con. So if anyone has tips - that would be so useful!

      January 16, 2013

    • Shinywaterbead

Kaylee's is easy, but finding the parts is difficult. Khaki coveralls aren't cheap on Amazon...There's a place at the corner of Kingshighway and Chippewa that has scrubs and work type uniforms for super cheap. I wonder if they'd have some coveralls there? It wouldn't be hard to take them in and shorten them to fit you, even if they were men's. Finding the parasol is almost a necessity, as is the perpetual smile. :)

      January 16, 2013

  • Natalie

I would love to wear a costume but I'm a big girl so I have no idea what to do. I love Battlestar Galactica and the Mass Effect trilogy. Any ideas that won't make me look ridiculous?

    January 15, 2013

    • Shinywaterbead

It's a con, so you can literally wear *anything* without looking ridiculous, so long as it is done on purpose.

      2 · January 15, 2013

  • Fox

This looks great! I am an illustrator and a designer, so let me know if you need help on anything for the table (cards, flyers, art, etc).

    January 15, 2013

    • Carolyn N.

That would be wonderful. Mandy is working on our logo at the moment. However, I love Moo cards - they do these cool cards where we can print more than one image on a set of cards. It would be pretty cool if we could have some flyers of upcoming events too. Maybe we'll see who signs up by the end of the week then have a pre-comic con meeting to get everything organized.

Hee hee... I just like the irony of needing to "man a table" for a Nerdy GIRLS group....

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
