StL Poetry MeetUp Group Monthly Meeting

  • Mar 22, 2014 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is no longer available

Hi One and All:

Welcome to our next monthly meeting of the Group on Mar. 22nd.  The theme will be "Destinations". New members are always welcome to join our laid-back poetry group.  We are "occasional" poets who write for fun and meet monthly to share our stuff with each other; very few of us have ever had a poem published, though some may have added poems to on-line groups.

Our meeting begins at 600pm with a social hour, poetry from 7:00-9:00pm.  Most folks bring a snack item/bottle of wine etc. (nothing elaborate) to share for our social hour.  We have a few minutes for any business items (next meeting place, theme, etc.) and then it's on to poetry.  Since we meet in members' homes, we ask that IF YOU RSVP THAT YOU ARE COMING THAT YOU ATTEND, OR CANCEL THE RSVP so the host/hostess knows how many chairs etc. to plan for, i.e. exercise common courtesy.  The exact meeting address is emailed the Friday before the Sat. meeting only to those folks who have RSVPed they will attend.

This month's meeting is at Maria's house near Jeff. Barrcks. While the theme is "Destinations" feel free to write off the theme if you prefer. It's all about having fun with words in poetic form, exercising the creative process.

If you're more interested in "open mic" venues, our own JB has MCed at the Stone Spiral Coffeehouse in Maplewood (2500 Sutton) every Wed. at 8:00-10:00pm for the past several years (mostly poets and guitar/musicians); just walk in, sign up, and have your 5-10 minutes of mic time in a welcoming laid-back venue; a good place to test your "stage wings" if your not used to being in the spotlight.  Give it a try!  Other "open mic" venues are listed at:  www.stlouispoetrycenter.org

Say.... what is the name of that $9 Waffle House? Is it called Melt? Thought I might drop by there and pick up some superficial fashion tips..... :-) and while I'm there check out their eats....

That's a pretty cool poem Tristin, maybe you could find away to put it to music.

    Wind

I feel the wind on my face.
    I am the wind,
    or so I wish.
    I could send my body
    spiraling into the night.
Because then I could be a part
    of it all.
    A part of you.
    That maybe you are out
    are standing someplace
    up high.
    And you feel me.
    I stir your hair
    I move your clothes
    I raise your flesh.
    With my chill.
    My presence.
If I were the wind I would travel the world twice over.
    Bringing dreams, turning thoughts,
    Causing you to aware.
    To something that isn't there.
    If only to the wind.
