Dave Allen is the founding member and bass payer for English post-punk group Gang of Four and English Rock band Shriekback. After leaving the bands behind in 1989 he formed an independent record label, World Domination, which was an arm of Capital Records. After moving to Portland, OR in 1999 he worked his way up through independent agencies here in town finally landing at the accomplished, North as Director in 2010. In February of 2014 Dave joined as Director, Artist and Music Industry Advocate at Beats Music, a new arm of the infamous Beats by Dre headphone company. When not speaking on Digital Brand Strategy and Interactive Design as an adjunct professor at the University of Oregon or the Pacific Northwest College of Arts, he enjoys speaking about music, the Internet, Social Sciences, Culture, Arts, and Humanities.
"Dave Allen is a formidable commentator these days on all things Internet, a sort of web 2.0 version of Marshall McLuhan: less New Age than Jaron Lanier, less Sun Microsystems than Bill Joy, less corporate than Mark Zuckerberg. There is a fierceness to him—he strikes first and warms up later—that makes him perfect for the job. " - Rick Moody novelist, musician, writer.
