Kids, even less.

Emergency sources and multiple techniques will be taught for each of the following subtopics.

1. Gathering rain and snow

2. Harvesting dew

3. Transpiration ( making trees and bushes sweat water)

4. Distillation processes (Demo)

5. Multistage filtration ( Demo)
a. Particle removal
b. Carbon
c. Sand
d. Ion Exchange resin

One method of gathering water that was not mentioned is a dehumidifier, of course it does need an electric source but if the grid is still up or you have a solar powered generator it is something to consider.

No matter how many meetings I attend on a given subject I always learn something new. Water 101 was no exception. Thanks again Fernando.

We leave our politics at the door, however world events (ie Libya and a nuc meltdown in Japan) seem to have distracted folks from a critical life support substance : WATER! 3min - 3hrs - 3days ; air - shelter - WATER! Despite world events, this is a subject our presenter is so intimately familiar, a 'well spring' of information presented with passion. I look forward to applying what I have learned, using the filtering techniques, for rainwater filtration and the critter-killing power of bleach(3% Sodium Hypochlorite solution). The radiation absorbing properties of Ion Exchange Resin, good stuff.

I would suggest that a QnA time slot be allowed after each subject is presented. Specific questions during the distillation section, seemed IMHO to disrupt the flow of information presented. The solar still section was skimmed or skipped. Having a designated QnA time slot would allow the outlined information to be presented, then questions taken. Bravo Zulu Fernando

Great meeting. This was my first one and this is will not be my last one. This tells you that we need to know more info about everything we need to know in order to protect ourselves. When the Grid goes down you could say we are on our own. Great Meeting and will attend others and help spread the knowledge.

What a wonderful group of people there! Lottsa info shared, lottsa great questions. We covered a wide range of Water theory and physics, talked about the sorts of chemical and biological contaminants as well as how to deal with them. In addition to that we discussed how to gather and store water effectively. We had a lot of fun testing the water to see which samples were cleaned well (and not so well ) by a variety of filters and bottled water companies. Kids and adults all had a good time. Thank you so much for the opportunity.

This meetup was super informative, lots of questions answered and ideas exchanged.
When more information was needed on a topic than could be given in the 2 hour time limit, the group leader pointed people in the right direction to research on the internet.
