Family Friendly Firearms Training

This is one in a series of small scale and personable firearms classes that is geared toward families, couples and singles that have little or no experience with gun culture. Unlike most of our other meetups we will be limiting the group for each session. Each session will be made up of the same basic information. In a quiet classroom setting we will teach basics for about and hour or so and then for the following two hours we will go into the range and shoot each of the weapons that have been presented to the class.

This is a basic summary of what each class will consist of :

* The Power of " No. " - Survival Psychology in relation to the use of firearms

* Gun safety practices - what to do and what not to do when handling firearms to prevent unintended injury and death.

* Gun law in  Pa, NJ,and De - sorting facts from rumors, looking at federal laws now and later

* Exploring different weapon platforms - Pistols (revolvers/semiautos) , Rifles ( bolt action/semiauto), Shotguns ( long & short )

* Understanding ammunition - strengths and weaknesses of various calibers and powder packs, the amazing selection of shotgun ammo to be found

* Proper footing, posture, hand and eye placement for good shooting results

* How to acquire proper sight alignment and hit what you aim for

* Dealing with weapon jams on semi autos for rifles and pistols

* How to sweep and clear rooms of predators and the best ways to employ a flashlight with guns

Then we will go into the range and get in a good couple hours of practice with the weapons demonstrated. Eye and ear protection will be provided, ammunition and targets as well. Hands on instruction will be ever present.

We will provide a variety of firearms that are suited for every age, body type and capability.

The weapons and instructors are donated to you for free out of a simple love and respect for humanity. The range fee, ammo, targets and eye/ear protection will cost each participant $50.00 in Federal Reserve Notes which is due at the beginning of each class offered.

Children of and age and ability to PAY ATTENTION AND TAKE THE SUBJECT SERIOUSLY are welcome and in fact are at the core of our planning efforts. Ages 8 and up are our preferred student ages. All of our instructors are seasoned parents and/or well suited to deal patiently with beginners.

So that we may all use the donated time and effort efficiently, please arrive on time.

This will be a fun and friendly event that will soberly deal with deadly serious subject matter.

Having never touched or used a gun before, it was a very insightful meeting. The class lesson itself was so informative on how to approach finding the right gun, holding a gun, positioning yourself when holding it, and firing a gun. When we went into the firing range, I was amazed at the effects of holding and firing the different guns. Thank you Fernando, Gerry and Jason for your time and effort on this very important topic.

We had a wonderful time. It was a lot of work for the instructors but we left with a tired satisfaction in our hearts. The mix of people was terrific. Old and young alike from many backgrounds came out to absorb the basics. I was present for the very first shots fired by several people today and I consider that a great honor. Thank you to all.

Sung, I was the Lady with the three teenagers with me,( 2 boys and 1 girl). Your presence inspired me. Your determination to travel a distance to learn unexpectedly birthed a small realization in me. If you can travel for hours to learn, then I can certainly step-up my own personal game! And I'm not talking necessarily about monumental task. I pray that you received the knowledge that you sought. peace n blessing

Thank you. Prepping is something I started after Hurricane Sandy. I was once a sheep until I had to face disaster. And I was totally unprepared. That has inspired me to never let that happen again.

Sir Fernando, Mr Gerry, Jason and the wonderful History Teacher Wow! A Gentleman came from New York to learn!! That's awesome! Never boring, very much hands on, a wealth of information yet not overwhelming. I and my 3 kids will have this memory for ever. Very patient , with a supreme attention to safety, I felt safe, and at the end so much more empowered! You guys a were engaging and passionate teachers. You gave nice real-world scenarios, and were fervent about us being familiar with the gun laws in our state (and Others), as Well as how to legally transport a firearm . You guys handled a nice size group of us, about 24 souls. I was proud to be a part of ya'lls group. My 21 year old son enjoyed himself and had to admitted that mom ( that being me, lol) DID pick a dynamic survival group to learn from. ha-Ha, in your face son! How bout this for next class, gun class 102 :-) we watch ya' ll take a gun apart and clean that Bad-Boy! good job managing such a Large group!

Thank you to the event hosts for organizing this meetup! My daughters and I really appreciate all the time and hard work that went in to making this meetup happen. I feel that the sensitivity and patience of the instructors made it possible for my daughters to feel comfortable and confident enough to go into the range to shoot all of the guns available for the first time. The wealth of information presented was very much appreciated. The energy of the meetup was upbeat, fun, and very family friendly with safety being the top priority. The meetup exceeded our expectations and we had a fantastic experience. Thanks again!

WOW - today's meet up at the Range was great! Fernando & Gerry & Jason are a wealth of information and they imparted SO much to us. It's hard to fathom everything they gave us today. What generous genuine people they all were. The class was good for young & old & everyone in between - we had em all. And the instruction worked for everyone. Everyone felt included. And the hands-on instruction was pretty awesome. All I can say is WOW!! Amazing & awesome. So glad I joined today's meetup. I learned a lot - as did everyone else!! Great class!!

I just shared the info for this class with a friend. She is still in the exploratory stage and hasn't applied for her NJ FPID yet. You specify that adults must have ID and give a driver's license as an example. Do you require NJ residents to have their FPID for this course? I'm hoping that you do not, especially since it is actually a Firearms PURCHASER'S Identification, but I don't want my friend to run into any unforeseen roadblocks.

    June 24, 2014

No this request for id is only for the range to account for safety regs, there will not be any roadblocks for anyone.

Is this class certified for concealed carry permits upon completion?

There are some NRA-sponsored relatively inexpensive classes given at local gun clubs for people who want to learn self-defense. We have a Women on Target program at our club this Saturday. It costs $35 and it's one on one with an instructor. Unfortunately it's too late now to sign up, but there are other courses going on at many clubs, and I don't know when classes like that will be taking place, but that information is probably available on the NRA website for their sponsored classes or on local gun club websites that can be Googled. Just some FYI for those who can't get to the class on July 20.
