Hack day

To meet BlackBerry Jam Americas 2013 which is happening on May 12 - May 14, 2013,

We will be holding a BlackBerry 10 Hack Day with involvement and support of Jeremy Wall, the SF group organizer. This is a casual Hack Day event and is a great opportunity to:

- Meet other Bay Area BlackBerry developers.

- Code in the casual hackathon.

- Seek help and advice on your current or future BlackBerry projects, experts from RIM, BlackBerry, and SF group organizer Jeremy Wall will be on site to help.

- Show off something cool you are working on for BlackBerry 10.

- Test out your code on a BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha device if you do not have one.

Goal: To port your existing Android and IOS Apps to BlackBerry, or to develop your BlackBerry Apps. It is a day dedicated to enthusiasts for Blackberry app development/ porting.

Style: Informal. This means there is No competition with the others, No rules or judges, No prizes.

Teams: Developer may hack individually or form a team with other people.

Platform: We'll use BlackBerry development platform for developers to work on BlackBerry apps.

So be sure to save the date and come have some BlackBerry 10 Hack Day fun.

There is a helpful "Getting ready for hackathons" page at http://blackberryjamsessions.com/blackberryjamsessions/getting-ready-for-the-hackathon/ that covers setting up the BlackBerry development tools.

There will be plenty of pizza (vegetarian included) and soda/water on hand, we'd have some fun BlackBerry swag to give away, and raffle too

10:00 AM - 10:30 AM Register, Networking

10:30 AM - 11:00 AM
Speaker: Larry McDonough

Larry would like to talk about our “Built For BlackBerry” program, and will offer to port android apps on the spot. Please bring your Android APKs and please make sure to check the https://bdsc.webapps.blackberry.com/android/bpaa/ for details on what ports and what doesn’t.

If you're not already a registered vendor for BlackBerry App World, sign up here and Larry will personally approve your registration at the meetup! This will enable you to submit apps immediately. :-)

11:00 AM - 11:30 AM

Hack Day Speaker: Joshua Granick

Joshua, a BlackBerry Developer Evangelist and a former lead supporter for Palm webOS native development, shares insights and tips on how you can make mobile applications, as well as his experience working on a popular cross - platform framework for mobile, desktop and web.

11:30 AM - 7:30 PM, hack time

7:30 PM - 8:00 PM or until App Demo Finishing, Apps Demo time, show off your cool Apps, Seek help and advice from the experts or your peer developers, each team will have 4 minutes start to finish present/demo. (MOST hackathon pitches FAIL not because the idea isn’t worthy or the app implementation wasn’t well done. The main reason they fail is the presentation was poorly done, this means they need some focus and practice. Larry will be happy to offer his services to help people do that too)

8:00 PM or after App Demo, Playbook Raffle etc. Networking

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
