Arduino and Raspberry Pi: Transforming Embedded Development

Join us as we explore what has made the Arduino and Raspberry Pi the go-to development environments for those new to the world of embedded systems as well as professional engineers. The spread of such open source hardware has significantly lowered the entry barriers of embedded devices and has the potential to transform the industry just like open source software disrupted the software landscape. While development boards are nothing new to the industry, with almost every company offering free or cheap evaluation boards for their chips, the constant revision, upgrade and community collaboration around their open source hardware equivalents have quickly taken the lead over traditional development.
We will show sample hardware, share community statistics and highlight current applications. Is this phenomenon ready for take off? We will show you some recent industry trends and compare it with early stages of open source software revolution, so that you can be the judge.

Elis Pogace is a computer engineer who has worked for such companies as Credence Technologies, 3M and Facebook. He has spent years teaching free classes on how to program the Arduino and helps run the Arduino group at Techshop San Jose, where hardware enthusiasts share their passion for this platform. He also coaches high school FIRST robotics teams in the Bay area.

Embedded Software eng interested in the trend and what it does to teach people about asking for specific data in their professional silo.

How about comparisons against the BeagleBone Black as well. Their current version attempts to compete with the price point of the Raspberry Pi at $45 by dropping a few features from the original version. The higher powered Adapteva Parallella is priced at $99. Thoughts?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
