6:40 pm Networking

7:10 pm Segment One: 6 Demos 5x5 minutes

Startup 5&5. Three health startups will have five minutes to present and five minutes for Q&A and resource sharing from the audience.

Ben Park - Fosmo Med Inc

Fosmo Med is a medical device company out to save lives by creating a new IV solutions that is shipped dry and reconstituted at the site of care. This method reduces logistical cost of the product so more can be shipped to the areas of need, such as Haiti or Africa.

Nidhi Sharma - ImpactMeds

IMPACTMeds adherence platform is delivering technology developed and tested in Project IMPACT and was a Prize Winner in the US Innovation Challenge for Diabetes

Nick Kwan - Medko Health is a platform that allows doctors and patients to connect worldwide, opening up opportunities for medical travel and ultimately flattening the global healthcare industry. Patients will be able to (still in developmental phase) find doctors based on ratings, destination, and recommendations. Doctors will be able to connect with other doctors with a LinkedIn type mentality while directly expanding their patient pool.

Sai Ganesamoorthi - HealthSavvi

We enable users to remember everything about their health experiences, access cloud stored health files anywhere & anytime and share health experiences with a private circle of family members.

Shaun Rahimi - Thimble Bioelectronics

Its the first easy-to-use, safe, effective and affordable pain treatment.

Over 116 M Americans live with of one or more types of chronic pain. Despite spending an average of $8300 per year for treatment, more than half of these people remain in pain. While a clinically proven safe and effective solution exists with transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) treatment, existing TENS products require a clinical background to be used and are inaccessible to the average consumer.

Thimble Bioelectronics is developing an electronic patch and a wireless app for convenient treatment of chronic pain (e.g. back pain) To use it, you place the patch over the pain area and it automatically delivers clinically supported TENS treatment to stop pain. The app is tethered (via Bluetooth) to the patch to continuously provide customized advice for improving recovery from chronic pain — almost like having a pain doctor advising you at all times.

Veronica Maldonado, DVM, PhD - VeMa Research

VeMa Research test brand new human therapeutics on pets with naturally occurring cancers. This is a win-win situation, pets get an opportunity to have access to treatments they would not normally have while at the same time help us build more successful human clinical trials because they are a more relevant model than our current rodent models. These studies cost far less than primate studies or human clinical trials.

Thank you everyone!! Greatly appreated all the demos! Thank you Joe for presenting. We will have videos up soon and hopefully some pictures!!! Our next event is on March 19th!! We will host our first ever panel on gaming!

Had a great time watching the demos, but I am not sure what the last gentlemen was offering, his pitch was to long and not focused on an end goal. Thus many become distant and wanted to network instead. Recommend leaving time for addition networking at the end.

    February 20, 2013

    • Akhsar K.

That being said. We had way too many presenters (we love you all, but aim for 3/4) and the change of room made it noisy. Usually we use that cafeteria room to allow the overflow of people to network while others present... The small room acoustics made it very very hard to hear the presentations even if you were right next to the sound system.

      2 · February 20, 2013

    • Jonathan G.

I agree Akshar, made it harder with the smaller room. I also agree with too many presenters, but I would recommend having the keynote speaker not talk longer then 10 to 15minutes. 30 minutes is to long that late at night.

interesting and relevant content. good group to network with. need better time management and ground rules for the 5 minute pitches.

Looking forward to hearing Shaun Rahimi's presentation for Thimble Bioelectronics accessible pain relief. And he used to work for NeuroPace, whose brand Victoria and I helped to launch when we were at Halleck.

Recording the meetup: We are looking for someone to take on the responsibility and help us record the meetup presentations and keynote!

For now we are looking for someone to record the video and then send it to us or upload it to the SVHealth youtube account. (The better you are the better but we just need someone to do it for now.)

From Nick "For one, for people that happen to miss a meetup, it’d be cool to see what we missed. I also think that having an archive of past meetups on Youtube or something would be awesome and could increase/maintain attendance. And for us young startups, it’s huuuuuge to say we presented at an event like this and have videos uploaded. "

Got my Masters Degree in Mass Communications and I did a media campaign for the American Heart Association to create awareness on heart disease and stroke. Trying to harness that into a career. Any advice on how to break into social media in the health care/pharmaceutical industry?

      Hey Akhsar,

I'm definitely interested! My product is, a Yelp/ZocDoc type platform to connect potential patients/health travellers around the world to doctors around the world. I currently work at Tesla Motors by day and work on this baby by night so please let me know if we can get some time up there! My co-founders and have been working on this for the past 3 months and are young, passionate fresh grads (UCSB-you went there too, correct?) and current students (Cal Poly SLO). Nick
