Building MongoDB App with Perl

Michael Friedman of East Coast, not to be confused with our local Michael Friedman, will be doing a presentation on building MongoDB App with Perl. Michael is also the maintainer of the MongoDB CPAN module.

MongoDB is the frontrunner in the wave of NoSQL databases that have emerged to supplant traditional thinking of relational databases. MongoDB is known for its excellent documentation, ease of use, and being one of the few NoSQL solutions to have a query API.

For those who weren't able to attend, our friends at SF.pm recorded the same talk last night and will have a video up soon.

I planned to attend but got stuck at work. Will the presentation be posted online, by any chance (not necessarily a recording, but perhaps slides)?

I would have loved to attend but looks I'm going to miss this.

I've heard a lot of bad words about MongoDB from my friends/colleagues, and read some stuff on the web (e.g., http://hackingdistributed.com/2013/01/29/mongo-ft/). So will Mike Friedman also tell how many replicas they use/how big is redundancy?

I keep my primary data in log files (custom data store) and the derived version of the data, in MongoDB. If I lose my derived data, I can always rebuild from primary. I turn off all the MongoDB safety features. MongoDB is just amazingly fun, but I don't put any data on it which is mission critical.

As much as I'd like to see which Michael Friedman wins the duel, I have another commitment to attend.

That's OK. I would have won, anyway.

Alright, that's it. Swords at dawn!

Any chance this will be streamed or recorded?

San Francisco Perl Mongers will be hosting the same presentation with the same speaker on Wednesday, Nov. 20. So there are two opportunities within the same week to learn about MongoDB Perl Apps.

Thanks Lambert, I'm confirmed for Wednesday's preso.
