Forest Park Hike

Hike at Forest Park - 7.5 miles.

Starting Point: Lower Macleay Park

One of Forest Park's most popular entry points, this trailhead provides access to the Lower Macleay Trail, which is only open to pedestrian use. This trail parallels Balch Creek, one of Forest Park's few year-round streams, which supports a resident population of cutthroat trout. You can access the Wildwood Trail .84 mile up this trail, which also happens to be the location of the Stone House, a remnant rest station from the WPA.

We will head up the Wildwood Trail and follow it around enjoying the park. We will make our turn around point at the crossing of the Dogwood trail.

Anyone can turn back early or go on longer if you would like.

  • Hiking or supportive shoes recommended hills and rocky trails.
  • Recommend Rain gear this time of year, just in case!
  • May want to bring water and a snack.
  • Dogs that are friendly and leashed are welcome. You must pack out the Poo.

We were there, but there were a couple of other groups. I had to ask around to find our group. It was the last one I checked with. We waited until around 10:15 to leave- were under the shelter.

I was there at 9:45 and there was a different group there. I waited till 10 and then felt foolish. I think I need to bring a friend along and not come alone.

It was my first chance getting "back on my horse" after a Summer backpacking trip. Glad to have the 7-8 mile challenge. No sweat!

We had 4 of us. Half had been the route before! No problem. There were other meetup groups there this St Patty's day. We were not them.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
