Doc Ford's in Fort Myers - PLEASE READ!!!

Last week I held an event for our Meetup group at Doc Ford's.  I called and reserved tables two weeks in advance for 40 people.  The day of the event I realized 52 had signed up.  I called Doc Ford's to add more seats and I was told at that time (6 hours before the event was to start) that I would have to put down a $250 deposit to reserve the seats.  I explained to the manager that he wasn't giving me enough notice to change the event or cancel it.  I explained that I didn't want to disappoint 52 people.  He admitted his staff should have told me about it at the time I placed the reservation but they didn't.   He didn't care - at all.  He was rude and arrogant and said that "we have problems with these singles groups all the time where half of them don't show up and we lose revenue on the tables".  I certainly agree with him about that.  However, I believe it was EXTREMELY unprofessional of him and his staff to tell me this six hours before the event when they had my reservation and phone number for two weeks.  So I left the reservation at 40 figuring some people won't show but surely 40 out of 52 will and I want to make sure they have a place to sit.  I paid the deposit.  I am fairly certain we had 40 people there.  If not it was VERY close.  What I didn't find out until the night was over is that they automatically put the tip on all of our checks AND they charged an additional $1.00 tip for very drink on our tabs.  WITHOUT TELLING US!!  So, I tipped our waitress extremely well because I appreciated how hard she worked for us and little did I know I had already tipped her in the check (yes, my bad for not looking closely).

Well, I just found out this evening that Doc Ford's charged my credit card for the $250 deposit.  I am writing to ask you to reconsider before you patronize Doc Ford's establishment.  When you have family and friends come into town to visit, take them someplace that appreciates your business and that doesn't treat their customers poorly.  According to the manager there they have more business than they can handle so please find an establishment in town that needs and wants your business and your support.

Also, from this point forward if you sign up for a meetup event and you are a no show, you will most likely be deleted from the group.  It is disrespectful to the organizers of ALL Meetup groups to sign up and then not show up.  Meetup is an awesome way to build a great base of friends in Fort Myers.  I have Meetup to thank for introducing me to most of my friends here.  I have a great group of friends and I'm not in NEED of Meetup to fulfill my social life any longer.  When I post events, I do it for YOU, not for me.  I pay $160 of my own money every year to keep this site going.  For almost five years I've done that rather than charge a membership fee.  So please have the courtesy and manners to show up if you sign up.  That is very little to ask for everything your Meetup organizers do.  So for those of you who signed up last week and didn't show up - it cost me $250.  I promise that will never happen again because I won't stick my neck out for you again.

Anyone I have met on meetup that would like to continue to stay in touch in the future, please friend me on Facebook - Deb Turner so you can continue to be invited to private parties at my home, etc.  They will no longer be posted on here.
