I was first introduced to Linux in 1997. I did my first install of Slackware from 13 floppy disks whose images I downloaded ftp from sunsite.unc.edu. Six months later I said goodbye to Windows - I'll never go back.
I haven't used them all yet. I like Mandriva for it's comprehensive desktop apps and I like SuSE for it's complete commercial polish. I like Ubuntu for its package management. I like Linspire for it's idiot-proof operation - one click installs!
Used Linux since 1998. Full-time since 1999. It's a new millennium!
In this case money is not an issue for me. I expect to pay for something of value. Time is valuable to me. I pay for Mandrake GNU/Linux because it saves me time. No viruses, no spyware, no registry corruption. All this saves time.
Yes, my son uses GNU/Linux at home. My girlfriend uses only GNU/Linux now, she runs her business with it.
GNU/Linux is very different from other operating systems. I like software that spreads freedom and not dependance. No matter how much money I pay I will never own Windows or MacOS, my children won't either. Thanks to the software freedom GNU/Linux provides they will always have something to learn/use and won't be controlled unless they agree to be.
"My favorite meetup to date is the one where Bert entertained us with his banjo (see pictures). Then there was the one where he AND Dennis both showed up. That confirmed they were two different people. We were wondering for a while."
Because we're all cool people who drive Harley Davidson motorcycles and play poker till we drop! Oh, crap - that's the other group. Well hell ... we're still pretty cool people anyway, come join us! :)
